Sometimes I wonder how different the animation industry would be today if that was what the Toy Story we got had been, with its completely unlikable characters. I doubt Pixar would have ever made another movie because that version of Toy Story probably would have killed the company had it gone to theaters where it would have likely bombed once word got out how terrible it was....
And if that happened, we may never have gotten movies like Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, Wall-E, Up, or Inside Out. It's really some food for though.

"Lucian, don’t be afraid, we’ll make it through this."Dreamworks would've been the originator of American CGI animated films instead. Remember, Shrek harped on classic Disney films and didn't reference Toy Story at all. Then again, it came around 7 years after Toy Story and probably would've either not been made, or animated in hand drawings, due to Toy Story not starting a CGI trend.
The Black Friday reel came about because Jeffrey Katzenberg wanted the movie to be "more edgy" - so they did so, and when he saw it, he hated it.
(I can only wonder what they said afterwards - "Well, we just did what you asked, sir. We made it edgier!")
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."This video narrated by John Lassiter (from one of the DVDs, I believe), goes into all the gory details behind the Black Friday reel:

"Lucian, don’t be afraid, we’ll make it through this."I almost wonder if Black Friday Woody served as an inspiration for Latso.
I see more in common with Stinky Pete than Lotso.
Stinky Pete fit the self aggrandising character who saw everyone as a pawn to get to where he wanted to be and turned nasty when they got in his way.
Lotso was the butthurt thug who gave up "rising up" anywhere and just decided to make everyone else as miserable as he felt. He's more if Woody gave up on Andy altogether and just decided to bully toys full time for a living.

I remember reading about that in Steve Jobs' biography.
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue.Polygon theorizes that Pixar is declaring Canon Discontinuity on Cars 2, thanks to the utter lack of references to said film in 3. (Article may contain spoilers.)
It honestly wouldn't surprise me if Pixar is at least choosing to ignore the events of 2, as there is absolutely nothing referencing it in 3, but it could very well just be Wild Mass Guessing.

"Lucian, don’t be afraid, we’ll make it through this."I would agree. Cars 3 feels like the actual for-real Cars 2.
—I can only wonder what they said afterwards - "Well, we just did what you asked, sir. We made it edgier!"
Apparently, that's more or less exactly what Roy Disney said to him. Followed by "Now why don't you let them make their film the way they want?"
I think that is pretty much what they said, complaining it wasn't their movie anymore.
The same thing has happened before, Disney making a 'cheapquel' and then deciding to make a higher budget one (eg. Cinderella 2 vs Cinderella 3, Lion King 2 vs Lion King 1/2 (at least on a budget scale), Toy Story almost ended up the same way, had Disney not loved the idea of the second one enough to put it in theatres).
Re: Cars
It will never be a top notch franchise, but that is kind of okay, because it actually doesn't want to be one. It is basically a movie series built around cars and nascar. It doesn't really do any harm. And its merchandizing money allows Pixar to tackle projects like Inside out.
I am more worried about the Sequilities Pixar has. Even though none of their sequels were particularly bad, only the Toy-Story sequels were truly good.
At least they've avoided Direct to Video so far (though Planes and Toy Story 2 came very close).

Lasseter says that Toy Story 4 will be Pixar's last sequel for quite a while.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. Will Toy Story 4 be released after The incredibles 2? I admit, I am not up-to-date concerning the schedule....
There is only one sequel (other than The Incredibles 2) I would like to see, and that is another Inside Out, provided they have some good ideas how to explain puberty.
Well, that's good, then. Do we know what Toy Story 4 will be about, yet?

Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.Inside Out is fine as a standalone movie. I'd prefer if they weren't producing Toy Story 4, since 3 seemed like the perfect conclusion, but I guess there's nothing to be done now
Toy Story 4 comes out the year after The Incredibles 2.
It's a love story between Woody & Bo Peep (who was absent from the third film).
Peace is the only battle worth waging.I think Woody even mentions having "lost" Bo-Peep at some point. I don't remember if they elaborated on what he meant.
That's verified? I thought that plot was just a rumor.
Lasseter confirmed it two years ago.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Disney channel was the subject of a WSJ article...about how kids are leaving the channel in favor of digital distribution:
Disney’s Channels: Kids Are Tuning Out - The Wall Street Journal https://apple.news/AMH75n6hWTwu28O1W06dTpw
So Disney should monitor digital viewership. Networks are already doing that. Sling.tv has a section where you can read your rights on Neilson ratings.
I can't recall seeing the silhouette of a Godzilla-esque creature in Moana until I read about it on the Nightmare Fuel page.

Yeah, Reality Is Unrealistic in this case. This thing is what Toy Story could have been, if they didn't pull the plug on it and rebooted it.
