@Psyga: I'd say ask the handler (danna) if they're willing to take your submission early. If they don't have a problem with it, send it in. If they'd rather you wait till closer to the deadline (e.g. for fear they'd forget about it), then just wait to send it in. There's no requirement that you be working on it up to the last minute.
@Tehpillowstar: No fanfic allowed, but what you do with the work after the contest is over is entirely up to you. Using Free Text Host and requiring that there be no attribution is only to ensure that judging is anonymous; who wrote what is revealed after the contest is over.
Handler here, I'm willing to accept the work whenever. Only thing I worry is that it'll be buried under a pile of other P Ms. Otherwise, feel free to PM it to me(And damn, if you really do finish the story way before the deadline, you work fast). Handler, out.
"And you must be Jonathan Joestar!" - SueScrew it, I'll have a go as a participant.
It's your God, they're your rules, you go to hell." - Mark TwainMe too!
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimSign me up. Hopefully I'll have better luck getting a story off the ground than in the last few I joined.
I'm in. Call me a masochist and an exhibitionist, but... I'm in.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.So... has anyone started yet?
I've begun writing a few days ago.
I've got a few concepts in the back of my mind, but nothing else as yet—this is a busy time for me academically, and I got sucked into a Tumblr RP unexpectedly. I do plan to start throwing words on paper soon, though.
"And every life is a special story of its own." —The Stargazer, Mass Effect 3I'm guessing I shouldn't post my tentative title, right?
I'm probably going to wait until I'm done with finals.
Or get an idea.
One mustn't give away the anonymity! How else are the judges to remain objective?
On another subject, the final sentence is still bothering me a bit, grammatically. It currently reads "...in the one place I never meant to be." Does this not literally mean that whoever is speaking did not mean to be the place in question? I can't help but feel that there ought to be a "where" in there somewhere.

"And every life is a special story of its own." —The Stargazer, Mass Effect 3It's somewhat casual, but it's a legitimate construction. The "where" is implied. If it's bothering other people, as I said earlier regarding "was", I have no objections to changing it, but there would need to be consensus.
Also, we're still short a judge.

But I want to put my wordcount somewhere. It doesn't feel official unless I have a wordcount somewhere.
And all my usual readers are competitors... goddammit.
I shall enter as a participant.
PREPARE TO SUFFER A DISGUSTING DEFEAT!
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I have like...zero inspiration.
Get inspired already, me. >:{
Complicated - because simple is simply too simple.After three tries, I'm already at 1.5k, and I think I might actually know what I'm doing.
Try going on a walk and let your mind drift to something else. Like trying to go to sleep, inspiration isn't something easily forced.
I don't really do walks. I go running from time to time, but I think about my breathing when I do that.
Truth be told, I'm a bit distracted at the moment, but eventually I'll just have to lie back and mull it over for half an hour or two. Something ought to float to the surface.
Complicated - because simple is simply too simple.@Cats: You can do approximate word count in this thread. (Don't do exact for the final version—I do check word count when I judge, so I don't want to know the exact number.)
So far I made it past the 1k mark.
Regarding judging: I would consent to drop out of the contest and take up the final judging position, but only as a last resort if you truly cannot find anyone else.
"And every life is a special story of its own." —The Stargazer, Mass Effect 3I'm down to judge.
I have some thoughts an inspirations drifting around that become be the start of an idea, but I'm not yet at the writing stage — I fear that I have some distractions at the moment. ^^;

That said, I suppose you can just file the names off of the characters and call it an original work.
