Because the more you try to cover up something and discredit the whistleblowers like Zoe Quinn and her circle of friends, the more it shows you either have something to hide or that you're just afraid of what they'll say.

Someone fill me in(and to be blunt, I'd assume most most shitposting would come form the US or UK because as much as I love this place and fly the stripes proud, we have no shortage of stupid people and entitled brats and my Tumblr friend from the UK says his neck of the woods isn't much better)

Mods keep deleting threads on Gamer Gate, Moot's apparently lost his spine and everyone's freaking out.

actually someone asked moot and he said australians are the biggest shitposters

I never would have guessed, honestly.

I'd picture them as the people that go shit-talk in real life instead.

Better summary:

• Moot goes to XOXO. While he's gone, the mods on /v/ go berserk and start mass deleting/banning anything mentioning Gamer Gate, Vivian James, and soon all kinds of things they don't like, acting contrary to Moot's earlier explanation that the GG threads were fine as long as they didn't break the raid/doxx rules. This goes on for at least a day or two.
• Bans and baleetions soon extend to /pol/ and /b/, just making posters fight even harder for the right to speak, making the mods go even more insane
• A lot of Germany users find their country is ip range-banned
• Moot comes back, the feedback page is baleeted, the irc channel is now locked, and he hangs up a sticky up onto /v/ explaining that Gamer Gate isn't to be discussed because "it's not considered related to video games" among other reasons (aka he's in full Damage Control Mode)

Now everything is throw into chaos as the mods go on a rampage against anything and everything related to Gamer Gate, with GG discussion and shitposting no longer contained into one single thread but now being spread out and shitposted everywhere over the boards by pissed off idiots like a fine layer of manure, and people are worried this is going to set a precedent of the mods on 4chan outright banning things they personally don't like and having moot's blessing. And nobody knows what the hell is going on in moot's head or how they can figure out why he's doing this. In short, everything's a mess there.

Which is why I'm thankful I mostly go to /tg/ and /m/ instead. Far less of this kind of thing.

Since I officially replaced /x/ with r/No Sleep I really don't go there at all anymore.

I finding hilarious;y ironic that moot, AKA mister "this is a total free-speech zone and nothing will be censored" is going on a freakin' censorship rampage over this.

So has there been any explanation (either official or just a remotely logical theory) why Germany of all places got banned wholesale?

No official explanation so far. My guess is that a few German ips were among the more persistent ban evaders, and an overkill approach was taken to force a lid on them, probably by a more inexperienced mod.

They should have had dedicated generals for Gamer Gate and Vivian on /vg/. At least it looks like the insanity's dying down.

Krauts being banned and full SJW mod staff would tell me they banned the country because white cis het males. /sp/artans got the blunt of this mess when several pages worth of threads were deleted (take in count SJ Ws hate sports), /a/utists are seeing their waifu threads being deleted (SJ Ws hate fanservice) and even /b/s baneposting is being censored for who knows why (dunno about this one). 4chan is Chaotic Good, it's always been a chaotic place, but not like this, and that's what freaking people out.

Long story short, Moot threw 4chan and his principles on free speech under the bus in favor of LW 2's bullshit. There's a massive exodus happening right now and Operation Samson is in full effect with help from /sp/artans. Anons will fight for 4chan be either getting it back or destroying it, but they won't allow it to become into a feminist, SJW hellhole.

This is why we need Gamer Gate: to eliminate corrupt journos and indie devs, to kick out political/feminist agenda from games and to ensure liberty of expression.

This is getting stranger (I would say dumber but I have not read so much into it and won't try to judge it too quickly) than I could have ever imagined.

4Chan is the last place I expected to implode over this.

You have no idea how quickly so many people are to consider a minor inconvenience in their lives to be genuine oppression.

4chan's mass bannings are a massive dick move, don't get me wrong, but there are other places to talk about what you want to. Unless the government is shutting down the internet wholesale, it isn't true censorship.

Moot's almost never bowed down to anyone else's whims in the "what anon has the right to talk about and post" department beyond truly screwed up shit like cp and actual crimes being planned out/committed on their site. The closest was with the DMCA being instated, and that was because all those celebrities' lawyers were breathing down his neck to do the minimum to satisfy them. But now the feedback page has been deleted. The 4chan IRC is muted. A country is, for the most part, ip range-banned. Moot's locked his twitter. And now he's letting the mods run free to ban anyone talking about one particular subject, either intentionally or apathetically.

Closing the channels of communication is about as close as you can get to censorship on 4chan. And that is what's going on right now. So it's not too crazy that anons are kinda pissed about it.

Agreed, love or hate it 4Chan is pretty much the net's last line of defense for free speech and if Moot has been pressured into silencing people we're in deep shit.

Maybe that's got something to do with 4chan banning the topic.

If death threats, bomb threats, and child pornography were all it took to force Moot to clam up, then 4chan would so not have lasted 13 years. The FBI and 4chan have a very, very, very long history together.

Besides, 4chan's been leaned on by the FBI about death threats, bomb threats, and cp nearly around the same amount of times that 4chan's actually tipped off the feds on those things. So I don't believe any of this going on is just over one single person on the internet.

The FBI jumped in when the CP appeared, but it's pretty much being confirmed that Sarkeesian didn't call the police over the death threats and the bomb issue Kotaku brought it up to cover their asses over the leaked emails that prove their journos are corrupt as hell.

You have to be a dense mthrfckr if you actually think someone threatened her. The first thing you should NOT do is to tell the world you got death threats; the second, even bigger one is to announce around the web you're going to leave your home and that you're "safe" with your friends. My family actually got those during the narco war in Colombia. I know as hell how things are when your life is actually threatened.

As for the feminist ans SJW conspiracy... I suggest you to read the connections between those involved in the scandal with Silverstring Media, Di GRA and DARPA. If there's someone who turns minor inconviniences into oppression are feminists and SJ Ws, and if you really want to see how they as journos and/or indie devs are kicking down other devs who don't bow to their absurd demands of muh diversity and stronk womyn (and they still kick the ones that comply) you should look for the interviews to several indie and some major devs about the issue.

And about things getting weird, /v/ used to say: "this is some JRPG levels of shit".

Um, she DID call the cops, that's how the FBI got involved in the first place. The initial feedback seemed negative because there's more than on district to the police in San Francisco, and it took them a while to find everything and clarify.

Uh, you are aware I'm bordering on supporting Gamergate, right?

I've been running defense for them across both threads this entire debate.

The rumor is that during the whole Tumblr raid 4chan's spamming of gore ended up driving a girl to attempt suicide, and she turned out to have connections to Gawker, one of the largest web media empires on planet earth.
