In good news, though, a guy on /co/ is writing translations. And it doesn't have any rules about not posting the raws of them either.

Also they aired two episodes at once.

That's Ephedia. And only one of them, actually.

Well, doesn't really matter. We got plenty of tropes dealing with typical team dynamics. The real question I'd like to ask of anyone that knows French and got to see the first few eps: is it any good?

I found it good fun.

(You don't need to know French yourself, we got translations.)

And I don't think they fit such strict classification. In episode two, it was Auriana that figured how to track the villains, after Iris tried to chase them blind at first.

Auriana and Talia do make Red Oni, Blue Oni together, though.

Delving a /co/ thread, I noticed that Auriana is suspiciously touchy-feely with Iris.

It's been a few days and I've seen s1e2 of this new show (engsubs acquired from an anon on /co/).

Short story: The villains attempt to cut out the middleman and steal Iris's magical voice in an attempt to gain leverage over the kingdom's security systems that prevent them from gaining absolute control. They use a dragon that happens to have the !Steal Voice command and disrupt a concert the Lolirock band was going to participate in, and our heroines have to go reclaim all the voices within 4 hours.

Details I liked: Mephisto and Proxima are actually reasonably competent as villains, but it's usually their arrogance that causes them to make major mistakes, like underestimating the mundane stuff Iris pulls to get one over them (like critting Mephisto in the behind with a tiny but painful magic missile last episode, or punting him in the knee and hobbling him long enough for her friends to recover from a withering barrage). While it seems a little contrived for the duo to get a voice-thief dragon for the job, it also gives us a chance to see that Proxima can be nice, so she's not some generic flat elite mook. Also their boss is quite the merciless fellow, as when those two fail at their mission and the dragon gets sent to him via their delivery portal, he simply kills it in a fashion that's quite unexpected for a show aimed at the younger crowd.

The girls are actually fairly competent and work well together. Auriana shows that she's more than just a genki girl by figuring out how to trace the stolen voices with her wand's magic ribbon function, and Talia tries to give Iris an emergency pick-me-up with some vile-looking homebrewed cure from her native country that would have boosted her power enough to get a partial transformation.

Also it appears that the Song Force is even more tangible in this universe than, say, Macross 7, as the victims of voice theft are still able to talk normally but completely lose the ability to sing. Magic Music at its most observable, viewers!

Finally, the girls disguise their magic during their end-of-episode live performance by making it look like big-budget concert special effects, also Iris teases her boyfriend by sending a projection of herself up to him in the middle of the crowd(!)

Production-wise, the French dubs are reasonable, and the animation is very on-model throughout the episode, props to Marathon.

I went ahead and launched a page for this over at LoliRock. I intend to keep working on it, but as I am new to editing I welcome people to look over it and add or clean up as necessary.

I rather enjoy the show itself, and am looking forward to where it goes. I was not expecting it to be so heavily focused on the Magical Girl Warrior aspects from the marketing, but it's a welcome addition. The music aspects seem a bit shoehorned in at the moment (Oh yeah, and we're making a band! Because why not!), but it's still early and I'm looking forward to seeing them expand on the band aspects a bit.
