Ookay apparently someone made a page of a 2013 film version of the Teen Titans.

Thing is, I can't even find any sources about this film. So... is this a hoax?

I've heard of it too, but there's barely any real info besides "Warner Brothers seems interested in making it, the same as they're interested in making a those Justice League, Wonder Woman or Green Arrow movies"

I think the general certainty everyone has that it will be about the 1981 Titans upon hearing about it is possibly misplaced, though.

I think someone probably heard the rumors, got excited, and jumped the gun.

Given that there hasn't been a peep about any kind of filming, its certainly not coming out in 2013.

I'm actually stunned Warner Bros never tried for a Titans live action series on WB/CW. Seemingly hits all their check points for shows; teen drama, good looking young actors, media less risky due being based on a known property. Other than the potential financial issues of the special effects budget, it seems like it would be a given.

@Borne Again: I bet it has something to do with copyrights. But I could definitely see them trying to do a Darker and Edgier version. Actually I think it would end up exactly like the High School AU fics that Teen Titans fanfic writers are so fond of.

Budget and Not Wearing Tights probably would make the show very impossible to do. For all the complaints, there was a real reason Smallville usually eschewed costumes except for guest spots. A lot of them looked very bad in live action, especially on a TV budget. Stargirl just looked hysterically bad.

So it'd be hard to do a live-actions TV show that wasn't In Name Only but also didn't look breathtakingly stupid.

Stargirl would have looked better if they hadn't picked up her domino mask at the dollar store.

Domino masks are always stupid. Seriously, they disguise nothing.

At least like they can look like some effort went into them. Comedians mask from Watchmen looked just fine.

The costumes don't HAVE to look bad, though. I've seen cosplayers come up with costumes that look damned fantastic. If cosplayers can do it, TV shows and movies should certainly be able to do it.

I had heard that the Teen Titans film was supposed to depict, as something of it's emotional core, Robin's transition into Nightwing. My guess is, though, that with WB trying to start a franchise dynasty ala Marvel, any Teen Titans film is on indefinate hold right now.

^ Well, given that it would at least partially have to involve Batman (which might have involved continuity with their own Batman films), I think that idea would be... difficult.

Though this is the first I'm hearing about it.

I remember hearing a while ago about an animated adaptation of the The Judas Contract storyline as a feature length production. Haven't heard anything about it since the one time I heard of it, though.

Seriously why does DC hate having more than one Batman running outside of comics at any one time? And if someone tells me its because they are afraid our puny minds will be confused I will shame them for I refuse to believe that even WB executives are stupid enough to think that is valid reasoning.

There has to be some other, less retarded, reason.

This is just my personal pet theory, but I think it's related to the fact that DC doesn't like for their adaptations to interact much. DC, more than Marvel, likes the idea of their characters each having their own little bubble where they don't have to ever deal with the continuity of another character. They all live in isolated fictional cities and try very hard not to acknowledge each other in their films. You're more likely to see Matt Murdock cameo in a Spider-Man film than Clark Kent in Batman.

They want to only have, for example, one version of Film Batman who doesn't have to care about what Superman or Green Lantern are doing in their movies because they live in completely separate bubbles that don't exist in his movie, and they don't want to have to reconcile competing versions of Batman and answer hard questions like "How come Batman in the Dark Knight Trilogy lived in a world without superheroes but Batman in World's Finest is bestest buddies with Superman?"

Basically: every movie exists in a bubble and the character does not leave that bubble until it pops, followed shortly by a new bubble forming.

[up]Or if a director, in his infinite wisdom, decides to put in "witty" jokes that pop the bubble from the inside. I guess what I'm trying to say is: "This is why Superman works alone."

The reasons why it's hilarious aren't the reasons the makers wanted. Basically, the intended jokes are awful; it's the unintended putridness of the thing that makes it laughable, although in a 'mankind is lost' way.

Back when WB started their direct-to-video DC animated films project, they had on their agenda an adaptation of The Judas Contract. Marv Wolfman DID produce a script for it (he talked about it on his website; sorry I don't have a link) and George Perez was on tap to do character designs. The project was shelved, though, shortly after Wolfman turned in his script. The reason given was that they didn't feel that storyline, being at the time nearly 20 years old, had enough of a fan-demand to be worthy of producing.

Thing is, though, I think WB's goal NOW is to have their characters interact, given that they want to do a Justice League movie and all. They'd probably want to do the JLA first, and then do a Titans film (if any Titans film is still in the offing) given that the version of the Titans they apparently want to do is the "team of sidekicks."

Really, though, there's no real reason to put Batman in a Titans film (unless it's just to try to boost it's star power). He'd likely be mentioned, but there'd be no actual need to show him.

The requirement of Batman being there is pretty much only in regards to the idea that the film would be about Robin as he became Nightwing - since doing that story without Batsy is a really bad idea.

If the film is just about the Titans themselves, then it's less of a problem - but if they're doing the "team of sidekicks," their mentors should at least get a mention or even an appearance in some cases.
