She looks haughty to me:
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman
Yeah, she's smiling. Her mouth isn't her only feature, though; her eye/brows and folded arms help show the trope.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. If she's smiling it doesn't look like a friendly smile. She has the lowered eyebrows, the folded arms, the long dark hair. You want to get rid of it because of a little smile?
She's very challenging.
Check out my fanfiction! That looks more like an arrogant smirk that a nice smile. Seems in line with the trope to me.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerEven if it isn't outright malicious - Marcia Overstrand from Septimus Heap, definitively a good guy but also an insufferable jerk, looks kind of the same.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThough on the other hand, it's not exactly aloof. Much too aggressive for that. So it's not the best illustration. But lacking other suggestions...
Check out my fanfiction!Agreed. Way to aggressive to be aloof.

I disagree. It's the smile that sells aloof. Her arms are crossed in a defensive/aggressive manner, but she's smiling—this, to me, implies she's being haughty.
She looks like she's going to flaunt her superiority at you and then rub your nose in it. Haughty, yes, aloof, no.
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableMaybe haughty and aloof aren't the same thing but how would we see the difference? The picture looks haughty but how would she look different to look more aloof?
Aloof generally means no smile at all. Any smile is inviting, whether it's pleasure or pain. It's a signal to other people at the very base of it. Someone who's aloof would not care to signal her feelings. Doesn't mean won't ever smile, or even rarely, but the signal of it, however you see it, isn't one of aloofness.
If you want to add another thing, that she's looking directly at the viewer also detracts from aloofness. It's an invitation to interaction, especially as it's just not observing or warning you to stay away.
You know, the more I think about it, the more I think it's just misleading and should be pulled, in particular as it's one of those tropes that are easily misused (though I don't know how it is with that since the rename).
Check out my fanfiction!I don't really think it's that misleading, but here's Lust as an altrernative.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerLust works. As does the second Suzuka one.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Lust works, but I think it would be a lateral move at best. I don't think there's enough wrong with the current to justify changing it.
Reaction Image RepositoryI see the difference you're saying. She should look emotionally distant but not looking down on people. I don't think any of the suggested pictures show it. I think the current is the best so far. If we do find something better, is there a haughty trope page to put the current?
Lust is decent. I get determination out of the Suzuka pics more than aloofness.
There's also Lulu◊.
Check out my fanfiction! Why can't this character be blonde? It is Aloof Girl.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyGood question. The name was changed not too long ago. Why is the aloof girl dark haired? Lulu is good.
The name was changed? Aloof Girl is red-linking.
She doesn't look very aloof. Back then when it was named even less appropriately, I got seriously confused. She has a smile on her face and looks friendly. I'm sure we can think of better images than this.
