I have had the complete godfather trilogy on DVD for a good few years now. I have the seen the first one many times (Once even at the cinema when COCA-COLA sponsored a classic movie weekend). The second is undoubtedly, the greatest sequel of all time.

A couple of times when I have had free time. I watched both back to back. But after the epics are over, my hand reaches for that darn third part. My mind says no. As such it remains unopened sitting there. Its reputation of Meh to terrible to It will ruin your opinion of the others! Has stayed my hand too many times.

So I ask you dear tropers. Should it lurk in that box. Never to be released or should I reach for that black case and see what Mr Coppola had for a conclusion?

Skip it. Sofia Coppola's a better director than an actress.

Watch it for Al Pacino showing the best example of him absolutely losing his shit outside of Scarface.

I actually liked it, though it's far worse than the other two.

Claims that it ruins the other two are stupid. The other two are and always will still be there.

I liked it, but it doesn't reach anywhere near the same quality as the other two films. Watch it if you want to watch it, but if you don't like it, don't let it affect your judgment on the others.

Part III isn't as good as the previous two, but it completes the whole trilogy, and I think you should watch it. Watch out for Sofia Coppola's acting though.

Part III isn't as good, but it's still a Best Picture nominee. Not to mention that being a little worse than two of the greatest films ever made isn't a particularly damning indictment on quality.

It makes a serious error in judgment by taking Michael Corleone, who had pretty much passed the Moral Event Horizon by the end of Part 2, and having him try to be good again.

The absence of Robert Duvall is a major loss.

Connie turns into this Lady Macbeth type of character, which doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense.

Bridget Fonda's character disappears partway through.

And Sofia Coppola's terrible acting has of course been already discussed. Winona Ryder was supposed to play the part but flaked out at the very last minute. And supposedly Rebecca Schaeffer had an audition for that part on the day she was murdered.

Anyway, it's not the worst movie ever made, and it's definitely better than the film that did win the Oscar that year, but it's pretty deeply flawed.
