I'm saying no one needs to hope for it because it inevitably will be a hit anyway.

And I don't. I don't even like her old stuff.

Does country even have an underground scene? With all the complaining about teen country and bro country, you'd think that dedicated country fans would go and preach the greatness of the less "pop" country artists. But we're still stuck with bro (with teen country on its way out).

[up][up] That's correct. "The Story of Us" peaked at #41 on the Hot 100.

I mean, there's alt-country. That's pretty good, a lot of the time (oh man, if my mom's country station played Bill Callahan every once in a while, I'd actually abide it)

Sam Smith's "Lay Me Down" dropped 10 spots to #18. Ouch!

Regarding "Style", isn't it already considered a successful hit? I suppose that success is relative in Taylor's case. Maybe her singles have to either peak at the top or stay in the Top 10 for plenty of weeks to be considered successful by her label and the media. Remember when Lady Gaga's "Applause", which charted in the Top 10 for 14 consecutive weeks, was considered a flop of a single because *gasp* it didn't peak at the top?

Taking account of Taylor's popularity, I won't be surpised to hear that the label executives won't expect anything less from one of their most valuable singers.

Trapdance is probably the worst thing ever created. There are a few good Trapdance songs, but I'm still not willing to listen to the genre as a whole.
Trapdance aside, trap music itself (with or without the "dance") can't offer much of anything new to satisfy the masses. A lot of its fans would dismiss a supposedly trap song for not exhibiting some of the genre's noticeable characteristics, such as the snares and deep sub-bass kick drums.

Those fans are kind of similar to those brostep fans who expect the "wub-wub-wub" sound effect in every brostep song.

[up] If I recall correctly, "Lay Me Down" was bumped to the Top 10 because of the John Legend remix.

That's basically the same thing that's happening with "Four Five Seconds" right now: by Rihanna standards, #4 is considered "underperforming." It doesn't help that it's her first Top 10 hit since Eminem's "The Monster."

[up] "Lay Me Down" have had trouble charting high at the charts, at least in the States, when the original version was released. So, the lukewarm commercial response of the John Legend-featuring remixed version is a little pitiful for me. I'd probably stop feeling bad for Sam Smith and his song. The song is nothing special after all.

To be fair, "FourFiveSeconds" has a much laid-back and thus different composition compared to other Rihanna singles. Possibly, not even Rihanna's fanbase is used to the style the song incorporates yet.

Who will replace Mark and Bruno? They're coming for Mariah's record and I am not comfortable with that. That was the one thing she had left. :( First her voice went, then her relevancy, and now her chart records. Shame, really.

I don't want to wait until "Pretty Girls" snatches the top spot in May. I'm rooting for GDFR, Somebody or Trap Queen to reach it, but they're all so far in points from King Bruno.

[up] I don't think "One Sweet Day" is nearly as memorable as even "We Belong Together," which was #1 for two less weeks. I'm expecting "Uptown Funk" to spend at least 14 weeks on top, but as of now no one really knows what song is going to replace it.

[up]I feel like it's just been too long since we've had a new number one. At this point last year we already had three. The top of the chart in general seems stagnant, even more than usual. Idk, maybe I've been checking it more often as well.

Regardless, I eagerly await Britney's return to the charts. It feels like it's been an eternity since she's had music worth revisiting. Britney Jean was such a disappointment sans like three tracks, and the singles were almost complete flops. I hope the Iggy fans can give her the support she needs, because if not I worry for her. Not that she needs the money or anything (although the Vegas residency shows she has the desire to work more), but its nice to see her have success. She's such an icon and she deserves dozens more number ones than she's got. Seriously. The radio blacklisting has hurt her so much.

Eh, she had her time in the sun. I'm not opposed to her having anymore hits, but I'm also not exactly hoping for anymore.

It doesn't really help that I haven't really liked anything she's put out since "Toxic" (which I'd say is actually a pretty decent song).

Though if I'm gonna be cynical here, I'd bet that most nerds only like "Toxic" because it was used in a Doctor Who episode (and to great effect, if you ask me).

Although the current chart certainly isn't bad (it's certainly better than it was for most of 2014), does anyone else find it a bit bland? The last time I liked most Top 40 music was early-mid 2013 (before "Roar" went to #1).

[up] I feel you, but it feels like there were more good songs just a few years ago. Not that there weren't bad songs then, but the ratio was more even. That's just me, though.
