Ok... who cares what some idiot on Cracked says?
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsI think he meant that you'd be considered a fat otaku in public but its okay for you to like it.
Still, the first cartoons, Mickey Mouse and newspaper comics, were actually aimed at adults.
The world isn't ready for giant T4 combustion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GbpGiYmBSs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKm9I think Mickey Mouse was generally aimed at a general audience.
But anyhow, I have long since abandoned any need or desire for the social acceptance of my interests and hobbies. Who cares what other people think?
Hey, come on guys, commenters on Cracked articles have a pretty big influence on modern society.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Yes, they're only second to Youtube commenters and 4chan posters.
If you wanna PM me, send it to my mrsunshinesprinkles account; this one is blorked.A majority of what I watch is animated, unless it's the movies. Then and only then do I ever make an exception (unless it's a good enough animated movie for my time, of course!).
Yeah, I can't stand this stigma, either - but it's sad how some rags of paper can dictate otherwsie, so I sympathize with you... For now, OP.

Even if I had different face, I AM STILL DISGRACED.er, why was my post thumped? That wasn't me trying to troll. Im in the Western Animation section, so I obviously watch cartoons...but that doesnt mean theyre not for meant for kids.
So you're saying that all animation is intended for children as the target audience.
Right. Move along, then.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.eh, even the ones aimed at older audiences are pretty silly. and the vast majority is aimed at kids.

One Piece is a kids show. So "Do not admit to being a One Piece Fan" does not mean "All cartoons are for kids" just "One Piece is for kids". You people are weird.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackEven if something is originally aimed for kids, it doesn't mean adults can't enjoy it. As long as that stuff doesn't dominate your life, it's still okay enjoying it if you feel like it.
Of course, society will be society, and we, as a modern culture, take any chance we can to place others in imaginary ghettos. We are more politically correct than ever, but also more hypocritical than ever.
I dont know anyone who would readily admit to watching family guy or cowboy bebop or anything.

I took a trip to Japan and its not as anime centric as you might think. I'm kinda glad too, most otaku's creep me out.
Cider@ Am I the weird guy? Its a kids show, but the same perception could apply to something as "adultish" as Squidbillies, even though its not a childrens show.
Most people don't even know about Cowboy Bebop (its got quality. though) and Family Guy is known around the world as "That cartoon that has swears", so its not part of that perception unless your a old guy who's never seen modern TV. Yeah, 80% of it is for youngsters but even that is watched by older audiences.

The world isn't ready for giant T4 combustion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GbpGiYmBSs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKm9I'm sorry, but couldn't you put this on one of the Animation Age Ghetto threads?
I'll throw my two cents; For me, I just forget about demographic; it doesn't matter if kids are briefly satisfied by it, you can still judge it as bad quality in various ways. And I don't like thinking of being creative as being adult. I know Ralph Bakshi and Gore Verbinski were trying to break out of the family oriented perspective, but I never liked that idea of "adult-oriented animation". It just felt like another ghetto was being formed.
I treat all living things equally. That is to say, I eat all living thingsDoes anyone else think there's generally 3 categories: kids, family, and adult? Family meaning both kids and adults can enjoy...
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again. My mother admitted to watching the Simpsons back in the 90s, but I dont anyone young that actually watches the show.
I meant that people not readily admitting to watching such shows comes from the 'cartoons are for kids' view.

Another thing, people let their kids watch adult shows and dismiss all kids shows as being boring and retarded, yet their exposing their kids to Metalocolypse and American Dad.
The world isn't ready for giant T4 combustion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GbpGiYmBSs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKm9As much as I love Cracked, I've learned never to trust anyone on Cracked (from the editors to the comments) when it comes to animation. The site's got one foot firmly planted in Animation Age Ghetto and the other firmly planted in All Anime Is Naughty Tentacles.
I feel like if you take Cracked seriously about most things, you're doing it wrong. They make fun of literally everything, so of course easy targets are gonna get thrown under a bus. My best friend cringes every time they release an article that mentions Green Day.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. Some things they make fun of more than others, though, and that can get a little old. You can actually tell who wrote a given article without looking at the byline just by who they start taking cheap shots at.
It does not matter that you disagree with someone if your logic for reaching that conclusion is equally as flawed. I am a Transformers fan and bar the Bay Films and a Japanese comic we do not talk about every single entry in that series was aimed at youngsters.
I enjoy it but that is incidental to the fact it is a show aimed at kids and that someone may look down on me for being into it. Had your first posts been "Just because it is for kids does not mean adults cannot find enjoyment in it." I would not have responded, at least not in that manner but here you took a crack against One Piece that mentioned adult animated shows just before it and then responded with more adult animated shows that are not One Piece. Essentially you have not made a single point nor disproved the point of the Cracked user.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture Rack
While surfing Cracked.com I came across this, said by someone named M Nebraska.
"No. You will be considered a total nerd if your are an open, professed animation fan. Its okay if talk about Myizaki or Otoma or the series you might have loved as a kid, don't say that you like One Piece."
Never mind the fact that tons of animation (Adult Swim and certain movies) contain adult content.
Then again, I might have not gotten the meaning of the quote.
