The SU nerd in me screamed at the gem talk.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Although now we got the dude camp counselor hitting on this Twilight. Which is kinda funny, because this relationship is just as likely to go nowhere considering it's a summer fling at best.
I stopped watching after the girls started commenting on how cute Sci Twi x Timber was after their first interaction. Perhaps later.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.....yeah...now i like romance...if it was relevant.
MIACelestia and Luna were part of the same year of kids that went to Everfree and made the sundial. So in this universe are they the same age? Twins?
So, the last few days I've had "Under Our Spell" in my head, but it keeps turning into "Hearts as Strong as Horses". Which got me thinking, how crazy would it have been if, instead of Rainbow Rocks introducing the sirens as separate characters, it had the human CMC getting affected by/addicted to the influx of magic, giving them the compulsion powers and driving them to kick off the Battle of the Bands? Not like they don't have a propensity for sowing discord for petty reasons anyway, and it might have even eliminated the need for that story.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.I like the Sirens too much to want that, but it would have been interesting.
One issue would be that Adagio not just creates strife, she directs it for her own ends. The CMC can certainly to the former, but I wonder how they would accomplish the latter.
Finished Everfree, I'd put it in third place among all four movies, just slightly under Friendship Games. Strong points were character development, the comedy, and resolving the conflict while still leaving threads open for further stories.
So-so: Music. As usual the villain gets the best song. Most of the others are just kinda there. Really catchy intro though with a chorus that should have gone into a more dramatic film. Villain was unique but never really felt threatening.
Negatives: Anti-climax.
Just watching the original EQG on Bronystate, and Sunset straight up says "She needs to die!" when blasting Twilight at the end... that sure wasn't in my theater.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty. Finally saw Legend of Everfree. I have to say as a character, yes, Timber Spruce is better than Flash. As a love interest...he's worse. In fact, I'd say the fact that he's a better character kinda hurt him because I feel like they could have taken away all the Timberlight scenes and the movie would have been much better. All of his scenes, much like the Flashlight scenes, felt like annoying filler with the added annoyance of being somehow less subtle than Flash. At least Flash's initial scene, despite it still setting him up as a love interest, was still ultimately just him being nice and helping Twilight up. None of the blushing and "cool guy" BS that Timber pulled throughout those scenes and his nature knowledge felt more like pandering to those who felt that Twilight should have been with a smart guy over a "cool guy". The only thing scene that really worked was when he confessed to Twilight about wanting to live in a normal town. It was one of the few moments where I felt like I got Timber as a character beyond his love for his sister, which was also done quite well. To be quite honest, I feel like Timber x Gloriosa works as a better ship than Timberlight, and I'm usually not into incest shipping.
As for the rest of the movie, I liked it though there is this feeling that this is merely just a set-up for another movie or perhaps a TV series. Like it was made just so that they could introduce the EQG 7's new powers. Still, I do like how Sunset really has become the Cool Big Sis of the group, Gloriosa and Timber did eventually grow on me, the music is amazing, and while I am disappointed that Flash was once again thrown into the background, his conversation with Sunset was really sweet.
Also, I felt like some people exaggerated the whole "You need to get over Twilight, Flash" thing. When I heard about it, people made it sound like Sunset really laid into Flash about how he just give up on Twilight, when she was being just honest about the whole thing. Brutal, yes, but she is right. Twilight has hooves full with being a princess, hanging out with her friends, and having Starlight as an apprentice. Taking the time to visit the EQG-verse alone was already going to be tough even after finding a way around the "30 moons" limit but continuing that relationship was going to be difficult.

Sometimes I feel like the EQG movies, put together, are kind of like the first season of an MLP spinoff where every episode is a two-parter. Or something along those lines.
It kind of helps that everything just goes back to the portal, and stuff leaking out into the EQG universe from the pony side.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...I will give credit to Legend of Everfree for not pulling Timber and Twilight's relationship into the conflict. When Sunset started suspecting Timber, I was really afraid that we'd either get Twilight getting upset Sunset for suspecting Timber or upset at Timber for betraying her trust. I was so relieved that they did not go down that route.
when the heck are going to get a decent romantic subplot?
MIAI thought Twilight and Timber was kind of creepy. He's a counselor, and he looked older than her.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.now that you mention it, it does.
MIA@Mullon: Novelization says he's teen. I do think he's older, but maybe by only a year or so. Basically a Sempai/Kōhai relationship.
Also, I remember saying several times in this very thread when EQG first came out that Flashlight could've been handled way worse. I think Timberlight ended up proving my point. Again, it's rather unfortunate cuz Timber is an otherwise good character.

Just finished it and I'd say it's taken the first movie's spot as the worst one out of the four. People complain about Flash but Timber's romance with Sci Twi is even less subtle, Spike was reduced to nothing more than a joke, and Sci Twi's character arc falls flat because we know that Sunset is the one who brought magic to this world and that it's been around since the end of the first movie yet Sunset never thought to tell her that . The villain here wasn't even that good either and nor was the music. Hopefully the next movie will be better.
As far as I'm concerned Rainbow Rocks > Friendship Games > Equestria Girls > Legend of Everfree.
I still think it's a little creepy since he's a counselor.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. He's still a teen, so I don't see why it's weird.
That being said, for as much as the Timber/Twilight romance was forced, I do see cutting the Flashlight thread as a way of avoiding Unfortunate Implications. Flash could easily be perceived as a shallow player for viewing the Twilights as interchangeable, and since Sci-Twi is aware of Flash's feelings for Princess Twi, she could be viewed as taking advantage of them for her own gain if she chose to pursue him.
Not that either would do those things intentionally, fan fics aside, but it wouldn't paint either of them in a good light regardless. And given this series' track record with romance, cutting the knot might be easier than untangling that web.
Anyway, welcome to the waifu thief club, Timber. May the drama be long, petty, and completely blown out of proportion.
On an entirely different note, I'm actually surprised to see the implication that the series will continue. After the lackluster sales for Friendship Games toys and how scaled back the dolls for LOE were in comparison, I thought they were going to retire EQG and focus elsewhere.
"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkHow about we all open our eyes and realize that these girls shouldn't be your waifus or Yuri fantasies.
MIAAfter this movie, I'm waiting for the crew the change gears and start going with Flash/Sunset. I kind of want to see that, my schadenfreude levels haven't hit 11 for awhile.

"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkI was actually surprised by that. Not often a kids show have ex's from what apparently was a bad break up want to get back together. I do hope they continue to explore that scenario, it would be an interesting dynamic based on their shared history.
Well, shoehorning Timber in there aside, that wasn't half bad.
Though I swear they're piling on the Rarijack on purpose too.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.Looks like Sunset being the Element of Empathy is more or less canon now. Cool.
#IceBearForPresidentWhen I watch these films, I feel like a kid again. So watching Legend of Everfree reminded me how much I used to hate romances in films.
I was in the "Girls have cooties mode" back then but the film did showcase all of the spotlight stealing, character shilling, and forced nature of one off love interests in kid movies.
Looks like there won't be anymore of the "relationship" between (pony-)Twilight and Flash.
