Would this image from NASA/JPL or maybe one of the Earth mined to bits fit the trope? Or maybe not even a picture of a planet at all, just a rock that shows a homeworld as a shrouded-in-myth location?

Third link looks the best to me, but I haven't bothered to read the trope description yet so I'll have to get back with you on that.

I like the second, and we can download a free version of it from that site.

I don't like the ones with a catastrophe about to happen. It's about The Earth That Was, not The Earth That Wont Be For Long (Maybe).

[up] It's alright, but I personally prefer the one of the Earth that's half gone (#2 in the OP).

Come to think of it, an early satellite view of the Earth might work; as in whatever work of fiction it's going to look different enough so the audience knows it as "the future". Though it would need a caption like "Enjoy it while it lasts."

One of the earliest color images of the earth from the ATS-3 satellite even has that lousy 60's color spectrum.

I like 4. The first OP doesn't look like Earth, while the 9 looks pretty normal for me.

[up][up]That's the before-picture. The trope is the after-picture.

I like the obviously damaged Earth one. And the sad-robot one isn't bad either.

Looks like thats two votes for Destroyed_Earth_From_Space_ (obviously damaged Earth) and two for desolateEarth (sad-robot). Anyone else?

I like 1.2 (the destroyed from space one) the best, too.

Most people seem to like Destroyed_Earth_From_Space_. Should we have a crowner to make it official or just put it up?

[up] One or two more votes for that one and we can run with it.

The Land of Ooo from Adventure Time. The Earth, roughly a thousand years after "The Great Mushroom War" that wiped out Humanity.

Nevermind the floating pastries, notice how a chunk of the planet is missing.

We can't never mind the floating pastries. It's distracting. I think the robot one is best because it's the most realistic. Is the earth mined to bits (destroyed from space) from anything?

1.2 is great.

The one with the floating pastries looks more like the earth is trying to eat them.

Destroyed_Earth_From_Space_ isn't getting any more support. Should we have that crowner now?

[up] I'll vote for it. I'm not against it, and my Adventure Time one was only a suggestion. I'm not trying to support it though.

Which image is that?
