Some of the stuff Lars talked to Steven about in "Stuck Together" (like how Lars bailed on the party and then got kidnapped) were things originally planned for a conversation with Sadie in "I Am My Mom".

This is making me realize how surreal everything must feel from Sadie's perspective—she last saw Lars running away, but everything else she could only hear about. Truly, Lars lived like a coward, ans died to an hero.

Although, I've also realized something else: Lars abandoned Sadie, then sacrificed himself to save Steven and/or people he just met. Without being there, she could easily take that the wrong way.

A random thought just occurred to me,inspired by this promo, what if the chest actually contains a weapon for Steven to use alongside his shield, like a weapon Rose designed to fit Steven's/Nora's hands better her sword?

It's not as exciting as say,the chest containing Pink's shards or her Gem but whatever.

[up]Unfortunately, Rose had no idea what Steven would be like. In fact, she didn't even know whether he'd be a boy or a girl. There is no way she could figure out ahead of time what weapon would suit his hands best.

So I found the song for Post-Character Development Amethyst:

Atwood brought up the kind of questions you'd think I'd asked: Lars couldn't enter his own hair portal for obvious mechanical reasons ("You're gonna break my elbow!"). But that really only applies from that side—Steven could theoretically pull Lars into the same dimension through Lion's mane and through the other side of the portal that leads to Lars' head. What would happen? Even the writers could only guess.

I sort of want them to make an episode out of that. I'm reminded of a mini-arc in 8-Bit Theater that involved the use of two Portable Holes.

I've been looking at the art in a bunch of a different episodes.

A lot of people say the show started drawing Steven smaller at some point, but it's mostly just one storyboard artist that's drawn Steven weirdly tiny at random points since about season two. Everyone knows how much characters changed size relative to each other and objects, but I don't see any trend toward smaller—people point to that scene in "Storm in the Room" where Steven needs a stool for his counter, but then Steven's tall enough to use Lars' counter in "The Good Lars".

On the other hand, his proportions have changed considerably even across all artists: He pretty quickly lost a lot of fat and his head's gradually gotten bigger (on average).

I don't have a problem with that most of the time, but then you'll get a few shots where Steven's head is wider than his torso, which means he doesn't even look slightly fat, just really short. Following the "if you can recognize the character, they're on-model" added, I'd call that a problem.

(I also found rare footage, from the very first episode, of Steven with a neck. Not sure if I love or hate it.)

It's a bit too inconsistent...

I can understand height changes, but not proportion changes.

Some degree of proportion changes are inevitable, the issue is when it affects your mental description of the character, and that depends a lot on deviation from average. Pearl's nose varies in shape and size a lot, but you can always remember it's big and triangular. Steven varying from "visibly pudgy" to "stout" isn't too bad, but going from "kind of fat" to "not at all fat" is really jarring.

The same thing applies to height, which is why Lapis' height is notably irksome. Most characters have a height you can generalize to a description—Amethyst is "short", Steven in "very short", Pearl is "tall", Garnet is "very tall", diamonds and most fusions are "enormous". But Lapis has looked the same size compared to Steven as Amethyst and Pearl, leaving her height as "between short and tall".

I tried a Google image search for Steven Universe height charts just now, and already I'm seeing major disagreements in multiple charts over whether the Diamonds are bigger than Alexandrite or smaller than Sardonyx even.

[up][up] The fact that a lot of them use stock images, which can change in size depending on how the picture was cropped, really doesn't help with that either.

Steven has been a lot more active lately and has even been training with Pearl and Connie so I guess losing some of the fat makes sense

There's also some disagreement over how tall Sugilite is compared to Alexandrite. Logic would say that Alexandrite is taller, but the inconsistency in the art makes Sugilite look taller more often than not.

Steven hasn't just gotten slimmer, he's been flat out chibified. His entire body, head aside, has gotten smaller in recent episodes. Hell, Connie got hit with the same thing. Compare this to the concept art.

I still prefer this to the Season 1 wonky faces, though. Just as long as it doesn't get to Hamtaro levels. *Gag*
