[up]Saw that trailer before The Hobbit. It blew the twist.

Looks pretty good at least because I liked Tron Legacy a lot. Plus I like some at least decent looking Sci-Fi.

[up]

While it seems like it blew the twist, the trailer (at least to me) made it rather unclear to me on what the whole issue is.

This does seem like one of those trailers that reveals too much. There is at least one other plot twist that isn't revealed by the trailer, probably two by the seems of things.

I'm afraid I have to say it looks generic though.

The effects are good. But that's doesn't make me want to watch the movie.

I'm very taken with the visual style of this film, and the plot (though, yes, much of it is revealed by the trailer) seems like the kind of classic sci-fi of which I'd love to see more in theatres. And M83 is doing the music? I'm sold.

Here's the theme song (there's some disagreement over what it's called, it's either Oblivion or StarWaves):

I find myself really hoping the plot of this movie isn't as predictable as it seems. If it really throws me for a loop, it might be one of my favorite movies for a year.

[up][up][up] The song is called Oblivion. Star Waves is the title of the other soundtrack excerpt that has been released so far, and that one doesn't feature any vocals.

It looks pretty, but utterly derivative. I was hoping for a twist where the twist advertised since the first promos were released is shown to be a ruse and Tom Cruise turns out to be a Decoy Protagonist while Andrea Riseborough's character saves the day. Sadly, that seems pretty unlikely to happen.

Bah, it would be nice to have one (just one!) movie where the guys living in the high tech, sterile white environments are actually the good guys. The opposite is such cliche that that revelation would certainly be a twist.

Since we know Tom Cruise's has been lied too and earth was not totally depopulated from the trailers, are the aliens briefly seen in the trailer real?

Becuase I liked the initial premise of failed alien invasion with the heroes just acting as mop up crew. Hasn't been done before often.

Oblivion has been released here in Mexico, I just watched it today, and it was boring. It sure is pretty to look at, but it's incredibly boring, there are long sequences were nothing is happening and you have characters only talking, which wouldn't be such a bad thing if it was something interesting, but mostly they're just info dumping the audience. The score is good, but it tries so hard to create emotions that should have come organically if the movie gave you a reason to care for the characters, but they don't so they have the score blasting basically yelling "Care for Tom Cruise and these other people! Care dammit!"

The story is derivative of other much better movies, it has some interesting plot points that go nowhere, it's long and you feel it, it takes an hour until the actual plot kicks in. And Tom Cruise monologues, oh my god he monologues, a lot.

Again the only good things I can say about it are the visuals and the music, and Morgan Freeman and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau are in the movie for like ten minutes.

I saw this at the cinema today. I went into it blind, only knowing it was a sci-fi picture starring Tom Cruise. A surprise appearance by Morgan Freeman is always welcome, too.

I was expecting something mediocre, but it was actually pretty good. The "scavs are really humans" twist was predictable since they dress like bad Predator cosplayers, and the whole clone thing is lifted from the plot of Moon, but I thought it was still executed well.

Also, screw that trailer. It should've set up the premise and not revealed anything else.

[up] Pretty much sums up my thoughts.

I mean, I enjoyed it, but it's pretty predictable.

I will say, I was pleasantly surprised, as I was expecting an M. Night Shyamalan twist. Turns out, this isn't the M. Night movie.

Just saw it. Jack didn't reload his rifle throughout the entire film. Not even once. (or at least I didn't see it, anyway.)

I enjoyed it. Had a few annoyances here and there (mostly with the pacing and script), but there were some great moments. Overall, worth watching.

I wasn't watching too closely, but I didn't notice any spent casings from the weapon, so I just assumed it was an energy weapon.

[up]I would have assumed the same, but you can see a short magazine poking out, and at the beginning he loads and charges his rifle.

Also, planes get struck my lighting all the time. It has no effect whatsoever. Ah well, I was not expecting realism to be present much anyway, and it didn't detract from the film too much.

My pilot friend who was also watching the movie laughed his arse off when the flying thing got bolted and went down for a bit.

Good point about the lock-n-load section. Did he do the same with the pistol? Because that gave off even more energy weapon vibes to me, between the lights and the muzzle flash it had.

The fact that it happened too early on in the film to create any drama didn't help either.

Can't remember for sure, but I don't think so. You do see him switch it on a couple of times, but I think it also had an ejection port. So, not really sure. Possibly some kind of hybrid energy/bullet ammunition?

If you look carefully his gun does have that little "Look out mutherfukin lasers ' warning triangle on the barrel. But thinking about it it could just be for a red dot sight.

Some sort of pulse gun sounds right. Caseless but otherwise conventional rounds trigged by a small electronic primer.

His plane getting struck by lighting wasn't for drama, as it turns out, it was foreshadowing for the fight with the drones later on.

The film was better than I was expecting, except for Cruise. I don't mind his acting, but for some reason he can't just be the good guy. He's got to be the messianic hero that everyone's been waiting for.

I don't know whether it's him, or scripts being (re)written for him, but it's annoying.

Watched this movie with several friends and we were all pleasantly surprised.

It was a pretty good film. Sure it had it's flaws and had some unoriginal bits but for the most part it was solid, creative and had a good cast to support it.

The special effects were incredible and the plot was ok in my opinion. I haven't seen Moon yet mind you so I can't really say much on the cloning plot point. Though the fact that the aliens used clones of Jack as forces to invade the Earth was interesting.

As for the gun Jack uses. It looked like an energy weapon that didn't use average bullets. So I didn't wonder about why he didn't reload it.

I thought the movie was pretty good, if not particularly original, especially in around the first half. The second half (it's just what I'll call it) where Jack discovers that he's a clone kind of disappointed me. A part of me kind of wonders what it'd be like if area 52 didn't have a clone, but was in fact just another normal human person. It would've made that switch with 47!Jack with 52!Jack a lot less weird, I think.

Also, go Jamie Lannister!
