You also need to talk to Vault Tec guy a few times before you can trade with him, once you can assign him.

Also, good news New Vegas fans. It turns out that ED-E wasn't the only Duraframe Eyebot to escape Adams Air Force base. I ran across this little guy near Diamond City (his model is very clearly a Duraframe one).

[up]Yep, there's one that flies around the Race Tracks too and keeps playing battle music while Raiders are trying to off you.

I built up a three story barracks building next to the Yellow Workshop Building in Sanctuary Hills. Has a technical fourth floor since the roof is accessible. I believe there are eight rooms in total; three on the first floor, four on the second, and the 3rd floor entirely is an apartment for Ethan (My PC) and Mac Cready to live in. I needed somewhere to store... Basically everything and the 'original' home is too small and claustrophobic. The entire place looks rather cute.

I also discovered that lights don't actually 'use' power in the same way other objects like Turrets do. So, all those three or four Large Generators I had connected to buildings because I lit them up a lot? Useless.

My 'Size' bar for Sanctuary is also getting pretty high. And that's AFTER at least two of the empty lots were taken up by an open air market and a small semi-outdoor community center. And one of the lots has yet to be touched and several of the buildings haven't been converted. I don't know if I'll be able to pull off my third building at this rate. I might have to use console codes to extend the size.

And ACTUALLY decorating these buildings and trying to personalize each of the rooms for each companion (Is there a way to 'assign' a bed to certain people???') makes me realize how limited a lot of the furniture options are. Like, there isn't much in the way of interior lighting. There are a bunch of floor and ceiling lights from a magazine, but they're really gaudy and look rather out of place. And there's nothing like, say, a basic lamp or wall light. All Industrial except ceiling light and fans but that can get annoying after awhile since A) it can look repetitive and B) the shadows from the light show through the roof into the next floor.

I've hit around 30 something beds at this point. Probably 'too many' but I kind of want to build Sanctuary into a REALLY thriving community and I've got the stores, beds, and gardens to supply such a community. Is there a hard limit or will Settlers just keep showing up until there's no room?

Placed a few 'TV' objects. Turned on, they just have this 'Please Stand By' screen. Do TV's have a purpose that I don't know about or haven't otherwise activated or is this all they do?

Speaking of not much variety, walls are oddly lacking. They have a bunch of pre-'fab ones and that's fun but I mean the flat walls. I think there are, what, 4 versions? And only one of them looked like I might survive a windstorm. lol So, for the moment, my buildings look like giant wooden cubes until I can find a better way to decorate.

I finally figured out how to solve my earlier issue of 2nd floors not clicking to roof tiles and the ugly gap in between 1st floor and 2nd floor walls. In the Wood Floors section of the Workshop, there's a 2 story floor tile with a set of stairs. You're supposed to use this to connect your floors and floor palates will automatically connect to that tile to everything should be even to the ground floor.

I guess now to go back to my first building and scrap the entire second floor to fix this??? I know theres the 'store' option, but idk how to pull something OUT of storage to be placed.

Funny... I just realized Sanctuary Hills is more of an island than 'Hills'.

Man, companions have the worst timing in this game. Without fail, they ask if I have a minute to talk just as something critical is about to happen.

My favourite instance is Preston asking me for a chat just as I was literally about to be DEMATERIALISED BY A PARTICLE BEAM. He had just enough time to say that it wasn't urgent...

With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars.

[up][up]If you store an item it will show a little green number next it in the building catalog and won't subtract materials when you build it the next time (ofc it also won't give you exp).

So, anyone else annoyed at a dozen followers suddenly talking at the same time whenever you go to craft something at your home base?

I went to the Castle and my generators and crops spontaneously broke. Then everyone apparently heard the siren's song because they all started walking into the sea. That normal?

[lol]

I don't think so, no. Maybe your Castle got attacked. It's happened before that my settlements got attacked without the notification popping up.

I got a notification to tell me I had failed to defend the settlement, naturally.

@Ink: As I recall, the settler cap is 10 + CHR, including temporary boosts, so more than 20-24 beds is kind of wasteful.

^^^ It happened without any notification after I was there for like a minute. One moment I'm making new beds, next thing I know my power, food, water, and happiness suddenly start dropping to zero. I run outside to see everything broke and people walking towards the water.

It was freaky I tell you.

[up][up][up]Ok, so 21 then. 10 + 11 from Charisma Score.

Does that include the number added on by Followers living there? I'd be disappointed if Followers are accounted into that. : / Seems kind of stupid considering the role of what a Follower does; they aren't there all the time so why should they be delegated a strict role within the community to take care of 'x' crops and etc?

I've also had issues with Settlements not giving me a notification upon being attacked. Sanctuary Hills apparently got attacked because I came back to find generators broken and water pumps destroyed despite no earlier indication of an attack.

Is there any way to 'delete' crop objects? I'm trying desperately to reorganize Sanctuary's Crop Gardens but there are too many tomato plants sitting around to move out of the way in any reasonable amount of time and just 'deleting' them all and planting brand new ones one by one would probably be faster.

I noticed in an attack on Greentop Nursery that one of the Mutfruit plants got destroyed by gun fire. So, maybe I can't delete them but I can bullet/lazer/nuke them away? Idk if this'll turn Sanctuary's citizens hostile though.

Is there any way to 'delete' crop objects?

Just go up to them and press the button that says "Store". The crop will be gone.

EDIT: In Workshop mode obviously.

I know this because I make sure to strip-mine the entire buildable area of Sanctuary before the Minutemen arrive there. Every last tiny scrap in every little nook and cranny...

They pissed me off the first time they intruded my workshop there, now moved to Red Rocket to get away from them.

Revenge is mine. waii

My feelings about the Settlement Citizens...

  • Settler: Thanks for single-handedly killing all those super mutants on the other side of the Commonwealth that were scaring us. We've decided to join the Minutemen. We need to help each other out if we want things to get better.
  • Sole Survivor: Great! So you're willing to help defend your neighbors now?
  • Settler: Oh, heavens no. By "join the Minutemen" I meant "make you personally responsible for sheltering, feeding, watering, clothing, arming, defending, and rescuing me and everyone on my settlement."

Tumblr. You never cease to make me laugh.

That rocket turret barrage was pretty amusing. I am just waiting for someone to make a Fatman turret :P

Speaking of which I got my hands on the Unique Fatman "Big Boy" which fires two shots at once for the price of one. >:)

I will. I have to finish upgrading my other crafting perks before I beef up my science perks. Gun Nut 4 for the win. Suppressed .308 Combat Rifle with a 30 round large magazine. Now I have a proper battle rifle. I can leave off that Lewis Machinegun wanna be "assault rifle".

Solution: Build up. A lot of small settlements can accommodate plenty of stuff when you go vertical. Housing and shops on floors one and two, farming on floor one, and artillery and defenses (mostly) on top.
