I have a sci-fi book that catalogs a history of sci-fi movies up to the present day. Part of the book also goes into the history and usgae of various sci-fi tropes, themes, writing devices and sub-genres (Steampunk, Cattlepunk, Cyberpunk, for example). Does anyone know of any similar books that look into the history and usgaes of other genres and their plot devices and so on? And- how much would said book/s cost in British £'s? I'm especially interested in horror tropes. Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone who helps.

How Not To Write A Novel is one of my favorite trope books and sources of writing advice in general. It covers a broad range of subjects, is written in a sharp, silly, darkly funny (although not always SFW) tone, and depicts some of the most common writing fallacies and shortcomings as read by a professional publishing editor.

You can probably find it online; if not on Amazon, maybe eBay or the like. It's not terribly expensive in US dollars, being a small paperback, so I can't imagine it being too costly overseas.

[up] I was gonna said that :(

Aldo it would be nice if somebody this wrote a book with tvtrope terminology.

I will always cherish the chance of a new beggining.

Thanks to you guys. I'll definitely get "How To NOT Write A Novel" (only 26p on Amazon!). I will also look up each individual book on "Books On Trope", some of them sound interesting :D.
