Siblings don't count. It's a trio of friendship.

Siblings can be friends. I don't think being siblings should automatically disqualify an example.

Maybe siblings can count as friends. Even if you ignore that, the page says that it's a main character, a secondary character of the same gender, and a secondary character of the opposite gender. If the character is a girl with her two male friends it's not, "The Hero has two best friends of different genders." It matter who The Hero is and who the sidekicks are.

The Magnificent Seven Samurai looks to be having issues with this, especially in the Video Games section.

[up][up]The only example I recognize is Futurama, which I would call valid. Not sure how to add context to such a simple trope, though.

The first step in adding context is to tell who is the hero and who are the sidekicks. Then tell how can we tell they're united as friends. Make sure one of the sidekicks is male and one is female.

Back to the mess that is The Three Faces of Eve. All the examples now have at least a little bit of context. Bad ones should be taken away and good ones should be added with context, but the page it's self is pretty much taken care of. The Three Faces of Eve is found in 309 articles. Three Faces of Eve (no 'the') is found in 59 articles. Most of them are probably bad or at least have no context. I can't do them all myself but I'll start with the ones I recognize that should not be there. I'll also make sure the good ones I know of are there.

Would it be worth adding something to the Ensembles page to warn against this?

It couldn't hurt to add something to the Ensembles page to warn against this. That way they might still shoehorn but they can't say they weren't warned.

I finished A-C of The Three Faces of Eve. I removed any Zero Context Example and any obviously bad example (mostly referring to The Hecate Sisters). Help would be greatly appreciated.

I did a small edit to Ensembles. How does it look now?

I don't think adding the word 'dynamics' is much of a warning for shoehorning but it doesn't hurt either.

I've taken care of D-K. Most of what I find has no context. I think the trope is valid because I know of a few examples but this is really lacking some good ones.

Thanks! I'm done with The Three Faces of Eve. Now I just need to do Three Faces of Eve. I hope I haven't taken away too many good examples. I found one that I added context too. This seems to be largely an anime concept with the Wife being a Yamato Nadeshiko. If anyone knows of any good examples to add that would be great. I'm not much of an anime nerd myself. Actually I guess that would be anime Geek.

While it was a while ago, what was wrong with the Chrono Trigger example? Maybe not the best written, but it seems to fit to me.

  • The ladies of Chrono Trigger fit this trope.
    • Marle is the child, maintaining her naivety and innocence through most of the game.
    • Lucca is the wife, smart and sensible and always the voice of reason.
    • And Ayla is the Seductress because, well, just look at her dialogue! (And she clearly has an established thing with Kino which results in her pregnancy in one ending)

"Just look at her dialog," doesn't say anything. It should have something sexy that she says. Any woman can get pregnant. We need to know how she initiated the relationship/sexual activity. I wouldn't cut it on the Wife alone but being the mediator (voice of reason) makes her sound like a good mother or big sister, not a domestic partner.

I finished to the N.

That's fine. Any example should be added back if there's context for each of the three characters that identifies each of the three roles.

I finished going through all the related pages. If anything good is added to the trope page it should be added to it's page as well.

On The Three Faces of Eve what still needs to be done is to change on the page when it calls the Wife the Mother (and make sure the the other roles are labeled correctly). If the only context for what is called the Mother is that she's a literal mother or mother substitute then it should go. "Motherly" on the other hand should stay as it is describing her personality and a good wife would also make a good mother, but context more specific to being a wife would be better.

Another thing, I don't know much about comic books but I can't imagine that any of the heroines are like a calm, wise wife. For example, Catwoman is wife-like?

I corrected the labels and took out the ones that required the old label.

Just being with a sexual character and a youthful character isn't good enough. I'd really like to know how Catwoman is, "someone around whom one could build a home life." I can't see Catwoman waiting to greet her husband who comes home to at the end of the day.

I've done some cleaning of The Hecate Sisters. It was mostly taking out examples that admitted they didn't fit and taking out bad mixes of The Three Faces of Eve. If anyone recognizes any example that doesn't fit the Maiden, Mother, and Crone, please take it out.

True Companions could use some help with this. I already tackled the Real Life section which had some particularly egregious examples of shoehorning, but there's a ton of examples still to go through. If anyone's up for helping, make sure to read the subtropes too because some examples may actually belong on a subtrope page instead. All commented out examples are ZCE and if you're familiar with those works, feel free to delete the line or clarify how they do fit as applicable.
