Its quality is also a little low.

Can we at least have a pic that shows him being a right hand to someone else?

The quality doesn't bother me, but it's definitively Just A Face.

Nothing, or an image if anybody supplies it.

Then I'll say Keep Until Better Image Suggested. I don't think it's misleading, and it does illustrate part of the trope.

Yeah, the "hottie" part. But if that were all that mattered, we could just put up any random picture of any random hot person and it'd be just as good.

Well, that and he has a business suit on, is clearly holding some important paperwork of sorts... It's not obviously "secretary" or anything, but it's clearly better than nothing.

I agree with Shadow Hog. In fact I think that the brown suit and the eyes looking down behind glasses implies that he's not important and the flowers make it clear that he's a hottie. I think the quality's fine too.

If this image were on a trope like Hot White Collar Worker, would it work?

Then why is it acceptable on a trope specifically about being subordinate to a more important character?

[up][up] Uh, what? A brown suit makes you "less important"? And I found his expression to have a touch of arrogance, myself.

I say this mostly because Morgan Wick's already made the point I was going to make. Further, suit != worker. Considering it's a manga, I thought it could've been depicting a teacher, for example.

Oh, I'm thirding the motion too. Perhaps a crowner of some kind will help the debate.

He looks more secretary than boss. The folder, glasses, and the way the suit is designed give me that impression. A very high class secretary, though.

Keep until better suggestion. He looks like a secretary to me.

I'm pretty astonished at the number of people who think he "just looks like" a subordinate without any further context. I think those people are nuts. :)

Maybe people are being "prejudiced" because they know what page the picture is on? Then again, is that a good or a bad thing? Does page context alone make a picture cease to be Just A Face And A Caption?

Anyway, maybe a crowner is necessary to sort out who thinks what here...?

Yeah, I'd like to know how I am supposed to know this is a right-hand of anybody.

The title of the page gives a lot of context. The image does not exist in a vacuum.

Don't get me wrong, a better image most definitely exists out there. I haven't seen any suggestions to that end, just suggestions to pull - and I think this image is better than no image.

Agree with [up]. He does look vaguely secretarial, so the image is not actively harming the page. Therefore, it is not enough grounds for a pull without replacement.

Would it be possible to 'shop in the character that he's subordinate to so that aspect can be reinforced?

It'd probably be better to find another image entirely. Considering doing just that, but I'm at work right now.

So I'm having a cursory look at some of the other entries in the article - not a whole lot to go on, really, because I'm unfamiliar with pretty much everything. Tried another image of the current guy with his boss here, but evidently they never shared many shots together or nobody on the Internet cared, since the only place I could find the two together in the same shot is this one, which has the guy totally obscuring his boss's face. Not feeling it, as such.

I'm not particularly familiar with Gargoyles, but Owen Burnett (apparently actually Lt. Cmdr. Data Loki, but we'll conveniently ignore that since he does play this role otherwise) has a few good shots. A frame of this GIF or an image like this, both with him near Xanatos (y'know, that Xanatos) would work pretty well? He's certainly pretty good-looking (insofar as a cartoon can be "good-looking"), and Xanatos's larger stature in comparison lends itself well against any ideas that he's the underling here.

The Mad Men suggestion had a few shots, but nothing I felt confident showed who was in charge and who wasn't. I kinda like this image but context implies it's not even from the show (and doesn't tell me what it is from, or if it's even an example).

Was tempted to suggest Mr. Smithers, but he's never played up to be particularly "attractive", now is he?

"Male secretary" on Google Images turns up a fair bit of stock art, but none that I can tell we can freely use. It also turned up John Kerry fused with Hilary Clinton, which I'm linking so that others might also be scarred for life like I now am.

Sooo... yeah. Blegh.

I just don't get the argument that he "looks vaguely secretarial." You could just as easily say he "looks vaguely professorial" or "looks vaguely in charge" or "looks vaguely like a movie director." I suppose if you WANT to hang the entire trope on a subjective "vague look," there's nothing I can do, but it seems to me a rather silly way to go about things.

[up] Y'know, instead of arguing the merits of the current image, which I've already admitted isn't particularly great, perhaps you could help me find a replacement? I'd appreciate a bit of backup here.

BTW, scratch the Mad Men image. It is from Mad Men, but the characters involved don't seem to be related in a fashion relevant to the trope (hell, the younger-looking guy on the right is apparently the superior of the older guy on the left). Not an example.

I was arguing because there seems to be a not insignificant portion of posters to this thread who want to keep it.

Perhaps to placate them, there's some pic of the currently used manga with both boss and subordinate in the same frame? Since the entry says the boss is older, that might work for context.

[up] I think you're mixing up "Keep Until Better Image Suggested" with just plain "Keep". I'm working on the "Better Image Suggested" part of the phrase right now.

And yeah, I looked for another image of the current, this time with boss; as I said, all I found was the one image, and it's not really any good.

The ones in #20 are more alongside Generic Cuteness than hottie. I think those might attract more examples of the "right hand man, and I think he's kinda good looking" type.

[up][up]That argument does not help. At most it makes me want to actually vote keep.
