Marvel Heroes MMO

Hello!

As creator of the Marvel Heroes page on TV Tropes and longtime follower of the game development process, I'm here to GET HYPE for the game. Haha. If you haven't heard of it yet, Marvel Heroes will be a click-to-attack/aim MMO ARPG created by David 'Diablo' Brevik, where you play as Marvel heroes (instead of custom-made characters, but there will still be quite a bit of customisation w.r.t. costumes/stats/powers etc.) saving the Universe from Certain Doom.

The game will be entirely F 2 P (think League of Legends style), with the most important loot drops etc. being unpurchasable. It's expected to launch in early 2013.

marvel hypes Nova so much, why?

There's rumors of a movie in the works for him.

I've heard people suggest that since they don't have film rights to Spider-Man, Marvel may be prepping Nova as their big "relatable teen hero" character.

You can use the movie costumes for pretty much all of the characters in the Marvel Studios films, but not Wolverine, Spider-Man, or any of the other X-Men or Fantastic Four characters. Are those designs owned by the respective movie studios?

I doubt it. Some of the Raimiverse Spider-Man costumes showed up in the otherwise unrelated Amazing Spider-Man game.

So games out. and is relatively fun and definitely D2-ish. apparently theres even a secret bovine sector.

I would have liked it if Iron Fist was playable, or Ant-Man/Giant-Man. If either of them becomes playable at some point, then I'll check it out.

Just downloaded, hope I can get a character I particularly like.

So, from what I heard, you can get characters in three ways:

Pay
Random drops
Buy with points

Is this correct?

not exactly.

Theres a starting 5 to choose from. another of those 5 drops after the tutorial. another (or potentially one of the same) after the final boss. After that its either cash shop or good ol fashioned D2 loot grinding./

Granted. getting multiple drops of the same one from the start 5 isnt terrible as excess copies can be burned to level up your lvl 30 Ultimate move

I see. Well, we'll see how this goes. I picked Storm because...meh to the rest. Not even really a Storm fan. Hopefully I can get somebody I like more soon enough.

Fun thing is, I am not that big of a comic fan. So I watched the cut scene and could only think, "Oh-no-not-Giant-Space-Baby-oh-dear". And guess we can't play Dr. Doom.

Same thing when I see the movies. Like Ironman 2, oh no, it's...uh, Lightningwhip.

Its fun but the game suffers for having open world zones. The open world boss fights are huge clusterfucks and seeing a bunch of clones is really immersion breaking.

I'd say what'll really potentially make it suffer is any loot worth actually trading to other people (hero drops, costumes, retconbs, etc) is non-tradable.

so theres really no trade community, a common community feature of diablo-esques.

New expansion coming. War Machine, The Vision, Blade, Immortal Iron Fist, Winter Soldier, Kitty Pryde, Black Cat, and X-23 will be playable.

So Gazillion is actually following through this time? Welcome change from the days of their non-support and eventual shutdown of Jumpgate and the shenanigans of the planned Lego MMO...

Why, no, I'm not bitter at a far better space MMO than EVE Online being shit on then canceled. Not at all.

Decided to necro this thread.

November 15th: Marvel Heroes to be shut down by the end of the year.

Today: Sources from inside Gazillion are saying they have been terminated today, Gazillion has been shut down, and the game will shut down on Friday, not the end of the year as first said.

I heard they even refused to remove the options to pay for in-game currency and they're not refunding people who were unaware.

That looks like a trainwreck.
