Not really.

Maybe I'm being cynical, but I just don't see anyone else getting in other than Ness and Lucas.

I think two reps for the MOTHER series is good.

Now, assist trophies? We could use another one or two there, I reckon, since Earthbound has the sole representation there between Jeff and the Starman. I could easily see Duster as one, for example; he appears on the scene, takes a deep breath, spins around and brandishes his Wall Staples, and then leaps beyond the top of the screen. Then, those Wall Staples would start raining down, spiking anyone they hit in the air, and burying anyone they hit on the ground. Some might also temporarily remain embedded in the ground for a short time, and will trip any opposing player that runs over them.

We also need the Runaway 5 as an assist trophy. THAT would be awesome! Love the Duster idea too. Any rep for MOTHER is good to me. grin

It would be pretty funny if Photo Guy came in and blinds someone with a camera flash; stunning them. If it's on Ness or Lucas, they'll strike a cool pose instead.

Giygas assist? Becomes the background and Mind Rapes everybody, ever?

I always thought Giygas would be an excellent stage.

If we got another MOTHER assist, I'd rather something from MOTHER 3. Maybe New Fassad.

He would be the least controversial Magypsy. Would like to see more playable character reps as Assist Trophies, myself, though. Duster or maybe even some MOTHER love with Teddie.

So... uh...

It's not an official Mother game, but has anyone here heard of Mother: Cognitive Dissonance?

Mother: Cognitive Dissonance is sort of a Mother 1.5, where the process of Giegue turning into Giygas is shown. A group of non-humans consisting of a blue Mook with a guitar, a Mr. Saturn with guns, a Starman and a bug in a small UFO has to stop him.

It has a lot of references to the other games and it's even got an update recently. I saw a walkthrough of the first version on Youtube, and it looks pretty fun.

It even shows the world Buzz Buzz is from.

Rewatched, or rather, re-listened to the ending of Mother 3. Indulging in nostalgia perhaps a bit too much, but it does give me a few shivers. I don't cry, so I've only had a small sob the first time I saw it played. There's something above all else, the player participation being a big one where it's the most direct shattering of the fourth wall I've ever seen, but there's just something about the very, very end when the logo returns to nature over a simple piano piece Memory of Life with just the suggestion of Pollyanna. That and 16 Melodies close the circle and the "no crying until the end" thing hits me.

Speaking of, I love that Mother's sparing with it's themes and doesn't overuse them. Pollyanna I believe in you shows up once in the first, Ness and Paula's houses which you could easily miss for how small a time you'll stay there, a tiny bit in Onet's first theme, and a little in Smiles and Tears. And just once in 3. There's something wonderfully heartwarming that you get the Mother 1 title theme while you go through the corridor, as if to tell you, "yes, we remember".

Is it weird that I NEVER cried at any of the Mother games?

Except for Claus' death, but that's because I liked him so much. And it was only a few tears, not a full on sob fest.

[up]Likewise. Not even the Salesbunny's dismay at my declining to buy the Streetpass games get to me. Though I did read that he's all 'fair enough!' in the EU version, due to some legal things about microtransactions and kids and junk over there.

I legit cried in MOTHER 1 in Queen Mary's Castle, when I was told about the Queen's nightmares.

And then I broke down even harder in Earthbound when I realized that the BGM inside Ness's house is a slowed-down version of Pollyanna.

...I am much, much more emotional about media than I used to be when I was a kid/teen. Although the very, very first time a video game made me cry, was the end of Kingdom Hearts Re Coded. "Thank you, Namine."

Nei's woobie backstory and eventual tragedy in Phantasy Star II was the one that did it for me.

Did anyone play Citizens of Earth? It is considered by some to be a semi-Spiritual Successor to Earthbound. I'm considering giving it a shot until we see if Mother 4 is any good, but if anyone played/finished it, is there is anything I need to know beforehand?

The reception seems to be positive, and I heard the bugs that damaged it at launch have been fixed.

[up]So far this appears to be the case. The game is more of a political satire though, so keep that in mind. Pretty fun though, the game has enough ideas so that it can stand on its own, pretty solid.

[up] Just got the game and I've got to say this game's pretty great. I gotta say that for the most part it does deserve to call itself Mother's spiritual successor. It kinda takes the the higher tone of Mother up to eleven, at the same time as toning down the edginess. The only complaint I have is that you have to level grind everyone individually. Kinda funny how you can find the game company that made the game inside it.

Edit: yeah there is some political satire but that can be easily looked over.

[up]There are lots of older games that self-reference in-game. Like Mega Man Legends. There's an electronics store where you can find a shelf with Mega Man Legends on it, and the player character will comment favorably on it.

Earth Bound also has a few instances of that nature, too.
