Any tropers who are a fan of Pogo?

I can't believe nobody made a thread about this guy's remixes. For people who don't know who Pogo is well (Pogo is an Australian musician, who makes remixes on certain shows,movies and cartoons. Mostly Pixar and Disney remixes.) My favorite remixes that he made was Boo Bass a remix of Monsters Inc and Living Island which is a remix of an old children's show from 1969 called H.R Puf N Stuf. What's your opinion on his remixes and what's your favorite remix that he did?

I'm not a huge fan (I don't keep track of him or anything) but I do like his work. Puf N. Stuf is one of my favorites. I also like Buzzwing.

So lately, Pogo has been posting some rather problematic stuff. Some of the more distasteful views were chalked up as a "social experiment" but in the end he makes some pretty harsh comments towards feminists.

I've had my misconceptions about feminism in the past but I wouldn't go as to far to label them in the manner he has.

This is really making me question whether we should separate art from the creator. I may continue following his work but this is pretty disappointing to me.

Well, in truth, I care enough to be gravely annoyed by them (and people telling me why I should care and how I'm a horrible person if I don't), so no, it's not actually.

I've just heard so much of it by now that I'm sick of it. Especially after that awful gamergate bullcrap.

Topics get ignored on forums all the time, so the fact that you bothered to tell me "you don't care" actually irks me a bit.

In regards to social issues, i don't think anyone should force you to care but taking an active stance to not care is certainly troubling. I mean, there's plenty of things I'm still not knowledgeable about but I wouldn't say that "I don't care about it".

But whatever, post whatever interesting stuff you want.

That's really weird to be coming up now... I mean the guy's been doing music for, what, years now ?

The only song by him that I replay from time to time is his Pulp Fiction one, and usually I prefer the video that syncs it to footage from Suda51 games. I think it's strangely appropriate.

Apart from that, I guess it's alright.

The music, not his views I mean.

I've always held an "you can judge art and the artist separately" mentality (that, to be honest I'm kinda starting to really question but that's a debate for another time) so I wouldn't judge Pogo's music because he's really gone down the MRA/Meninist path.

Regardless, I never really liked his stuff all that much. Nearly everything he does had this werid "bland" feel I never liked.

I mean, I like "somewhat" similar artists like Flume, Rustie, and the newer Koan Sound stuff, so it's not a stylistic thing. I just always felt his stuff was average and kinda resented how "big" it got but maybe that's just me petty, I dunno.

Everybody can hold whatever opinions they want(for the most part), but when you express it outwardly on social media then there's bound to be a response. Doesn't justify harassing him but sometimes we do express views that should be challenged a bit.

What annoys me is that people are calling him a misogynist when I don't recall him saying a word about women themselves, only talking about a movement even some women find flawed. People are so quick to label others these days that they don't bother actually processing the situation.

It's like, instead of hearing "I think feminism is flawed and here's why", people heard, "Women are sluts and only good for dick storage".

Except his assumptions about feminism still have massive generalizations(the typical assumption of prioritizing females to the detriment of males among others). People don't have to actively hate women to express narrow minded or condescending opinions about them.

To act like he was just making feminism out to be a few flaws is rather generous.

Look, on one hand we ideally want the internet to be an ideal place for discussion and to not be jumped on for having beliefs that are different. At the same time, when we make an argument that has flaws people are certainly right to address those flaws. If Pogo was genuinely curious about feminism he likely could have asked about it, but to make a declarative statement about how he feels about feminism will likely frustrate people who have been studying and participating in these movements.

All I'm saying is that people are blowing this way out of proportion. It is not misogyny by definition if he doesn't actively hate women. All the people calling him misogynist are just looking for labels to throw at him without even knowing what it means beyond "something negative about women".

That thing you mentioned about "being jumped on for having beliefs that are different" is exactly why I don't get into things like this most of the time; because the people who are so concerned about "progressiveness" will throw every label they can at you for not having their exact beliefs. Disagree and get made fun of, blogged about, ostracized, what-have-you.

As for Pogo himself, it just seems like he gave people looking for something to get mad about... something to get mad about. Really, he should've just never involved himself with this to begin with.

"Hatred, mistrust, or prejudice against women." If you watch the video above he definitely expresses a very dim view of women. In any case, is being called a misogynist the only grievance you have in this instance? I'm fine with wanting more precise language but even if you say he's not a misogynist it doesn't exonerate him.

I don't really know what else I can tell you in terms of discussing these social issues. Because people are going to blunt on the internet regardless of what issues and beliefs they have. In the end, you have to parse out what areas to be critical and what areas to learn from even if the people themselves aren't the nicest. But in a discussion, people will question your own beliefs in turn.

Let's think about how you talk with your friends. Do you not let them know the truth if they're doing something wrong?

Pogo's Youtube Channel just got hacked. His main Youtube channel's name was changed from "Pogo" to "Ethereum 2.0 Foundation" and is currently running a livestream talking about bitcoin. Previously the channel was doing a livestream of his music video "J'adore Juin" which played endlessly then got uploaded three times. All of his videos have also been deleted.

Well, that explains that weird bitcoin stream.

Also fucking hell, I hate 2015 me.
