Kinda worried now that I'm nearing half way between my University degree that I may never again have time for anything fun in this world in between juggling work and making things in my basement. What I'm saying is, I'm worried that my transition into the real world after college will rob me of any time it is possible to have fun in, due to work/relationship commitments before my book writing/art making concerns are even addressed.

I may never get to finish watching Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle or Seinfeld in its entirety, because shit keeps coming up in my life where I can't get around to it, either because I'm making my own narrative epics or stunning masterpieces or somebody gets sick, I get sick, or I get busy in the least sexy sense of the word.

I don't wanna die and have most of my DV Ds unwatched, never write all the books I wanted to write and fall in love while balancing a career like I'm Meg Ryan with a penis before I go.

This might seem a bit emo but I'm less whining as much as launching a legitimate inquiry as to how most people who work in the arts/any other job function while trying to balance their hobbies with life and work.

And yes, this WAS triggered by listening to Kevin Smith's Emo Kev Smodcasts. Look them up. I can wait. You guys are in a whole different time zone, by the time I can reply next you'll have had time to listen to these.

That's one of the things I like about working weird shifts: plenty of time for stuff I like.

Make time. Like call in sick to work on occasion.

Work occupies, for the average person, 8-10 hours a day.

That leaves, assuming you're one of those people who sleeps 8 hours a day, another 6-8 hours a day to do what you want.

That's a lot of time to do the things you care about. And, if you get a job that you actually enjoy, your days will seem faster and more fulfilling anyway.

Or you can be like me and just pull 18-20 hour days on a regular basis.[lol]

I'm slowly (by my standards; it should be done by next week or the week after) shifting my sleep schedule back so that rather than an intermittent period of sleep-wake up-sleep-wake up spread over 8 hours (with about 4-5 hours of restful sleep), I'll have crammed my insomnia back into a little box that I can cycle in and out of when I actually want to sleep. (I'd rather get four hours continuous than get 4 hours spread over 7. tongue And fixing my insomnia doesn't seem to be much of an option.)

Shit I get like maybe one hour a day on weekdays of personal time. AIT sucks. Don't go Army if you can help it.

Mark: I've been an insomniac since I was 10. From age 13-18, I averaged 2 hours of sleep a night in any given week. Note that that's a weekly average, and at least one night a week would be around 7 hours.

I am very accustomed to terrible sleeping habits.[lol]

16 hour days are worse than insomnia.

Not when insomnia involves an 11 hour work day and still being up 2 hours before work and 7 hours after it...
