I just put the sides which had the most value. Heh, just to disprove all the people who've claimed I'm a fascist in the past, I'm a social democrat. That's pretty close.

62% militaristic? That's the highest in this thread.

Probably the only soldier in the thread too, so I guess it's to be expected.

You're basically a social democrat who doesn't want democrats to take your smokes, food, or guns away.

Barkey Since: Feb, 2010 Relationship Status: [TOP SECRET]

Yeah, basically. I would say I'm a social democrat who believes in giving people the rights that they deserve, and not taking away rights in the name of safety or security at the expense of freedom.

And that's what puts me at odds with Democrats constantly, and makes people think that I'm a Republican Warhawk type. I'm extremely liberal, but pretty much turn into a caged and angry animal when you mentioned touching my things.

"Yeah, I'm all for gay rights/reproductive rights/healthcare/education! I support you 100 percent! OH FUCK NO YOU WANT TO RAISE THE PRICE OF CIGARETTES AN EXTRA DOLLAR AND BAN SOME OF MY FAVORITE FIREARMS?!? I HOPE YOU SUCK START A SHOTGUN!"

Soon as you threaten the things that are dear to me, I pretty much dig my heels in and become completely unsupportive. The things I cherish make up a pretty small list, but are very important to me.

The "I got mine, jack!" political position? :P

Barkey Since: Feb, 2010 Relationship Status: [TOP SECRET]

The "I'll help you get yours, but if you try to take mine I'll chop off your hand." position.

I'm pretty liberal about most everything until my 4 or 5 things are threatened.

1. Guns(I'm open to gun control, and if you look around you'll see my own statements on what I consider smart and effective gun control throughout the fora)

2. Military retirements(#1 may come into play if these are threatened, and I wouldn't be alone)

3. Tobacco

4. SOPA related things

5. Miscellaneous category of anything that involves forcing me to change my ways without my consent. Basically shit like Bloombergs soda serving size restriction law in NYC. AKA Misc Nanny State bullshit.

I don't see why raising the price of cigarettes should warrant such a violent response. That's not taking a thing away from you, really. *shrug* That whole drink portion thing was incredibly pointless, though. That's not going to solve the issue they want it to.

I haven't taken that test, I don't really think those kinds of things tell me anything important. I just think that there needs to be regulations on businesses so they don't trample people, and massive reforms to education so that we can actually get back into the top spots. And actually give kids a reasonable future.

What's that supposed to make me? Not crazy?

"I don't really think those kinds of things tell me anything important."

Nobody actually does. There like horoscopes, we do them out of boredom.

"What's that supposed to make me? Not crazy? "

Depends on your definition of reasonable future.

The tests are pointless but entertaining, IMO.

I'm actually against vice/sin taxes too, because they disproportionately affect the poor and do nothing for the addicted but squeeze a little more money out of their pocket.

And yes, you're sane. Or you're a BIG GUBMIT PROGRESSIVE depending on who you ask, I guess.

They would just spend the money they saved by buying more of there addiction. Does anyone honestly believe that most of the poor are going to spend the few bucks they save by not paying paying sin taxes on something life changing?

No, I don't. Not if we didn't do something else to address the problem in a way that made sense. Now, how would we do that? Maybe by providing better opportunities for these people to move up from their socioeconomic status. Maybe by providing more funding for rehab clinics. Hell, for all I know, what we need to do is throw teabags at people and scream about the constitution. I'm not much of an ideas guy, really.

Pragmatism beats ideology for me,that said I fall under being economically liberal by both European and US standards, but socially end up as center-right by US standards.

Look, I don't have a problem with sin taxes, but I also don't think the government should be tripping over itself to prevent people from smoking, either. They've got the surgeon general's warning, they've got laws to make the cigarette companies not lie about the health effects, and now they've made laws to prevent too much inconvenience to other people that don't smoke, that's as far as I think they should go. All else is up to individuals. There's only so far you can go before it becomes cartoonish.

I guess the above pretty much describes my political position. Do what you can to prevent inconvenience to others, and put up plenty of warnings and information so that people know what they're getting into, then get out of the way. *shrug* Or at least part of it.

Personally, I feel like the government should put a small tax on cigarettes, and use that money to help fund the following: education on the effects of cigarettes, support for people who are trying to quit, and rehab clinics.

  • 41% Cosmopolitan
  • 61% Secular
  • 52% Visionary
  • 46% Anarchistic
  • 33% Communistic
  • 59% Pacifist (Only 59?)
  • 27% Anthropocentric (If only because, while I do care for wildlife conservation and carbon reduction. The examples the test gave were a tad... extreme.)
