So I've been thinking, out of all the dead celebrities that truly inspire people, good role models for the kids, I'm torn between "People who died young because of decadence and hedonism" versus "People who died of natural causes but were upstanding members of society".

Therein lies my struggle to pick between Kurt Cobain and Christopher Reeve as my favourite dead celebrity. On one hand, you have the man who made flannel shirts an acceptable menswear item and who destroyed the bad dregs of hair metal. On the other hand, I have to show solidarity with Christopher Reeve because he's Superman and as an autistic dude I have to uphold respect for far more disabled people than myself, because as bad as things seem in my life, I'm certainly not paralysed from a horse accident.

Kurt Cobain's rock and roll burn out but Christopher Reeve's struggle over adversity and though he didn't live to see himself recover completely, he certainly didn't end his life with his own hand. Christopher Reeve's clearly got the Superman Blue Boy Scout "stay in school, drink your milk" moral high ground here.

I like em both but Christopher Reeve wins out as a true role model to the kids.

Which is your favourite dead celebrity who's a role model/or should never be associated with the words "role model" in the history of ever? I kind of like Dio too, he didn't beat cancer but he sure left a heavy metal legacy behind. He probably died a lot happier than Michael Jackson did, but I can't assume anything having never met the guy.

Freddie Mercury, definitely. That guy had pipes that are nearly unmatched, even to this day. And he had no prior vocal training before joining Queen.

I should punch myself for forgetting him in my above post, but Christopher Hitchens. Sometimes I forget he's no longer with us.
