I don't think Reiner would actually have any problem picking Bert up. I imagine he could lift his own weight fairly easily and Bert's like thirty pounds lighter.

Bert is probably a guy whose ancestors originate from the Mediterranean or Middle East (and yes, some people on Tumblr are acting like it's a big deal.) The Walls are likely a melting pot with people from all over Europe, North Africa and West Asia, so obviously some of their residents are darker than others. I don't see an issue here.

Oh god...I really don't want to get into this but I did think "in the past, there used to be different races" (said by Mikasa's parent-murderers) implied that only one race, or at least only one race's features (Caucasian) survived in the end. However nobody should give a flock.
