Figured that such a thread was needed to address some FAQs that often come up in Wiki Talk:
Where do I discuss a certain topic?: We have an entire forum for various topics. If you don't know where to post, you may want to ask in Ask The Tropers.
I need help with making a page. Where do I find it?: There are several avenues; trope pages ought to go to YKTTW; with work pages either a thread in the Media forums or a YKTTW should help (be ready for Work Pages Are a Free Launch replies, though)
How do I make a page?: Type the URL of the name and namespace you want to create a name under into the address bar, hit "edit", add the content you want to add and hit "save". Don't forget to set the page type!
Can I create this page?: Depends upon the sort of page:
Administrivia: These should usually be discussed in Wiki Talk first.
Subpages and other pages: These are usually free. Keep in mind to use proper structuring - character pages are usually organized by header, as in Septimus Heap.
I've got banned. Can you unban me?: These requests don't go in Wiki Talk. Please use the FAQ thread, or if you can't access it, the Private Messages system (they are linked from Know the Staff), the holler button (yellow triangle over your post) or the email: thestaff@tvtropes.org.
The Tech isn't working well or I have access issues: Bugs is the place. Threads made here will be moved or locked.
I have a brilliant Tech idea!: Unless it implies a policy change or is of non-trivial extent, better off in the Wishlist.
Can I add this example/how does this trope work?: This is what Trope Talk is for - don't forget to read the stickies!
In which namespace does this go?: Namespace and Namespace Map have extensive information. If that didn't answer your question, use this thread.
What are the heralds - these messages I receive when I make my first post on a given forum?: The herald system is a welcoming system for newcomers - see this thread.
Why is there no YMMV button on creator pages?: The "Creator" page type doesn't make YMMV tabs show up. It's because most of the times YMMV items for creators are undesirable as they become complaining/Creepy gushing etc.
How do I make subpages for works that share the name with another work?: Unfortunately, subpages are tied to the page title, so you'll have to soft split the page.
This image isn't showing for me!: Look for the image in the image list and check if you are using the correct capitalization of the ending (.jpg, .JPG, .png etc.). The image server is case sensitive.
How do I index a page: You just need a suitable index page, where you edit the name of the page you want to index into the bulleted list. If you can't find an index, refer to Needs an Index. You can ask for help here.
A page has a green link on it: That means that it's linking to a disambiguation. Such a link needs to be changed to one of the pages on the linked page.
