For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Tonight, Roy Scheider stars in an early-70's crime thriller with a notable (...or so I am told) car chase scene coordinated by the same filmmakers and stuntmen behind The French Connection and Bullitt (That sets a really high bar).

I regret not being around for this tonight, but I definitely have to try to watch this on my own.

Here's The Seven-Ups...

Tonight, it's 7-Up! I mean, The Seven Ups, because apparently there's more than one of them. How can I math if I'm missing one of the numbers? Tonight, we'll find for x.

And that's after some extreme dinosaurs and some video kid or something.

So, stop on by! https://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

That car wash...

Best thing in the movie, I'd say. And the music, it was trying too hard at times, easily.

But I was the sole dissenting voice. This got ★★★!

That car chase was pretty great though.

B-Movie news of the week: Roger Corman is being sued by his sons to block the sale of his movie library to Shout! Factory

Anyway...

Oh, Ho-Oh-HOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo...

Tonight, we conclude our impromptu three-week Moon Lee trilogy with Midnite Angels 3 (All these movies we've watched these past few Fridays are part of the same series; they just go by dozens of different names. This one is on YouTube as Midnite Angels 3)

Kicking off Kung Fu Friday right now with some anime and more Takeshi's Castle.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, Moon Lee is back and kicking butt in Midnite Angels 3.

I've been wanting to see this one for a while now.

Take your typical sports movie centered around a comically inept team, then add astrology (of all things) as the element to make the team suddenly come together and become unbelievably great.

Featuring a mix of real basketball all-stars, most significantly Julius "Dr. J" Erving (and a real-life Pisces) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, with quality 70's acting talent, including Jonathan Winters, Margaret Avery, M. Emmet Walsh, Stockard Channing, Flip Wilson, Debbie Allen... and even Sho'Nuff himself—Julius Carry III. There's even a small appearance from Harry Shearer in here somewhere.

It's The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh!

And pay no attention to the scoreboard reading "104-105" above raining confetti. I'm sure that shot isn't very important to the movie.

I'll likely be watching a movie with my online friend instead tonight.

Alright, the [adult swim] video left playing in the chatroom last night is kicking off pre-show with another episode of How TV Ruined Your Life.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, it's late-70's disco/astrological/basketball madness in The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh.

Annnnd, the movie we were going to watch tonight, Google Drive didn't convert it until past midnight. So we're going to have to find another time for it.

[up]All that and you still didn't want to join up for The Fish? I guarantee that would've been a solid Plan B. [awesome][awesome][awesome] enjoyment.

Anyway, I was a bit excited for this movie, after I thought I spotted Dawn of the Dead and Keenan & Kel's Ken Foree in the movie... but it appears I was gravely mistaken. Oh well, we're running with this crap, anyway.

This is the story of a group of siblings who, after the death of their single mother, scheme to escape from the foster care system (out of fear of being split up and separated), and run off on an adventure in search of their 'Uncle Jack'.

Submitted for your approval, here's On Our Own...

I'm starting us off on a tangent following last night's movie—Julius Erving's 1987 basketball VHS tape Dr. J's Stuff. Part biography, part career retrospective, part exercise video, part training video, and part motivational talk. I'm only running this after finding it on YouTube during last night's movie because I actually remember watching it a number of times when I was, maybe, ten or eleven years old in hopes that Dr. J could help improve my own ball skills.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we got orphan adventure drama in On Our Own.

I watched Jesus Camp with my online friend over Skype. It was pretty interesting. She said she was surprised to see me laughing at the movie and not taking it seriously, as opposed to finding it horrifying.

Honestly, having seen it myself, it actually would be good material for this group. It's insane in a way that made me laugh more often than it made me shocked. There's a lot of WTFery, but each person's take on it will vary.

My friend said that if we run it, she might or might not join us, but can't say for sure. She joined us for the movie that she introduced me to, Maradonia The Shadow Empire.

[up]Seriously, when I discovered you had Jesus Camp up on our "test" playlist, I was disappointed that you didn't want to tell us all about that sooner. I would've even switched out last night's movie on the spot just to watch that again. I haven't seen that movie since Dubya left the White House, but I bet that movie would resonate even more today than it did twelve or thirteen years ago. Quality bold letter material right there.

Anyway, I'll be damned (maybe) for picking this for a night when I can't be around to watch it, but I'm sure this will hold interest: Matt Letscher plays a high school teacher who wins California Teacher of the Year, and, as the rest of the faculty is a mess of eccentricity, he receives a tempting offer to leave his job...

...Ah, whatever he's quite obviously overshadowed by the mere presence of Keegan-Michael Key playing a character named "Ronald Douche."

Here's Teacher of the Year, a mockumentary.

I have training at work that was rescheduled to today. I'll be back home around 7.

Should still be able to start tonight's preshow on time just fine. But just in case, mentioning it here.

Back. If anything, back a few minutes early.

On the way back, I saw some moron who was in a right-turn-only lane that actually tilted right (as in, there was concrete that made it very clear that right was the way to turn), turn left into my one-way-only street, and go the wrong way down my road. I saw in my rear view mirror two people swerve to avoid this moron as he (I saw that it was a he) headed straight for them.

I think this mockumentary put people to sleep. One voted a minute after the poll started. Another voted several minutes later, after being pinged.

We gave it ★ total. Why not an X? Because one person voted 3. [lol] (One also voted 1 instead of an X.)

Looking forward to watching Jesus Camp again for the first time since George Dubya left the White House, but I'm sure it'll be just as crazy and relevant today as it was over a decade ago.

Easily one of the greatest documentary films of all time!

This has easily got to be one of the most peculiar productions Lance Henriksen has ever been involved with.

While clearly more of a low-budget character drama than the sci-fi "space time travel/space-time continuum" piece that YouTube hopes to sell this movie as, apparently Mr. Henriksen has a deep fondness for the director or developed some sort of close friendship with him. According to IMDb trivia, Henriksen went so far as to (1) present the director with a portrait that James Cameron had made depicting Lance as the T-800 from The Terminator before Arnold Schwarzenegger was given the role, and (2) got matching tattoos with the director to commemorate making this movie and their shared passion for it. I'll let that much speak for itself.

The premise of this movie concerns a psychologist. Stuck with a struggling marriage and mounting bills, he finds himself at a crossroads between the life he has chosen and the life he wishes he could have had. Then enters Lance Henriksen as a mysterious client with visions of future economic and moral collapse, and with that, our psychologist commits himself to setting out to change the course of his future and the rest of the world.

Here's Maneater. (Watch out, boy, she'll chew you up.)
