All Purpose Super Robot Wars Fanfiction Thread

There are none, robots anyways. Robotech is a franchise that lives on stock footage.

Granted, there could be some Robotech-exclusive stuff in the expanded universe I've heard semi-exists, but I don't have access to any of that material anyway.

Some of them do show up in the Robotech-only movie, including a few movie-only enemies. I have a sourcebook of the Shadow Chronicles in my portable HD.

Anywho, I've been obtaining Wildstorm Robotech stuff and there are some Robotech-only characters/mechas/ships I found...

Aside from adding potential Robotech-only mecha and stuff, has anyone made efforts to write a SRT story with Megas in it? I saw a small number with Pacific Rim in them.

I was writing one with Pacific Rim, but stopped when I realized it was horribly sexist and robbed Mako of what little agency she had.

Ouch. I know that there are some other Super Robot properties out there, but most of them are in comics that I don't know if most of you guys know them. Well, aside from the 1960s-70s Shogun Warriors and maybe that Red Ronin (IIRC) mecha.

To elaborate, some pushy bureaucrat would force Raleigh Beckett to leave Mako behind when the Jaeger Rangers get called into the Super Robot Wars, and though it is about them fighting tooth-and-nail to not be split up, it's all Raleigh's initiative that drives things, Mako's just around for the ride. It now makes me sick to think of it.

So are you going to just let it be like that, or are you going to 40,000 tons of awesome to that problem and fix it?

Where would your fic rather die: in the cradle? OR IN A JAEGER?!

All the robot action scenes can't help if your character writing is fundamentally flawed.

And I personally would rather die in a warm bed than screaming in agony being drowned, burned, crushed or blown up in a cold steel coffin, but that's just me.

I still don't know how I can write that plot without coming across as sexist.

Have the government guy still be a sexist jerk if that's what he is, but on Raleigh doing all the work trying to stop that.... don't. Have Mako be working just as hard as he is.

Well, I may have misphrased it, but I think what I meant to say was that it was very clearly Raleigh's story, and Mako would just sort of be "And Mako was there too" for most of it. It's not like she'd be WORTHLESS, but Raleigh would take the lion's share of the focus.

Have yet to watch the original Taekwon V in its reconditioned status (has English subs though), but I've checked the first volume of Wook Jin Clark's Megagogo, which is a recent comic that has its own take on Super Robots. Guy's influence includes anime/manga he watched/read, including Super Sentai via Power Rangers.

If and when someday I can write a Super Robot Taisen story, I'll probably include the former first.

Anyway, I found a photoshopped image on what Taekwon V (The original, not the 84/90 version) would be like if it was in a Super Robot Wars story◊.

Also some Pacific Rim SD Jaegers◊.

And an impression if Gipsy Danger was given the SD treatment in a SRW game.

To be fair that frequently happens in SRW, where unless their series plot comes up, its mostly the lead characters that get focus, with the supporting cast occasionally having a line or two. I mean you'd think Getter Robo is entirely Ryoma, considering how little his two partners ever get to say or do.

There are exceptions of course, like Kallen in Code Geass who despite not being either of the leads is one of the most focused on Geass characters in the Z saga. But usually it's main character is the only ones the plot seems to remember is there.

That's probably why SRW fics are considered hard to write.

Yeah, but the way I'd do it would be like a betrayal of what Pacific Rim was so praised for. Mako is allegedly just as much a protagonist, and I wouldn't be doing those allegations any favors by writing my idea.

Two things I wish to ask everyone who writes SRW fics/wants to write SRW fics:

1. Do you imagine characters/mecha as having a super deformed appearance?

2. This may be a long shot, but is it possible for collaboration, barring problems of how things should proceed?

I see on (1), even though SRW's been given the super deformed treatment. I guess it does depend from person to person.

On (2), yeah.... If some people won't mind aside from you, then this needs to be figured out.

1. Not at all. It's SD for in game display purposes only, and storywise all robots are supposed to be as big as they are in their shows. And ever since the Z series started they've been mostly getting rid of the SD so the robots don't really look that SD anymore.

2. I don't see why it would be impossible, though coordination would of course be needed. Why? Did you have ideas?

I do. Depends on what super/real robot stuff I want to put in from non-Japanese/Asian sources aside from the first Taekwon V movie.

How about Clan 'Mechs? Be interesting to see these guys react to non-humanoid robot designs like Clanner bots.

The only non-Japanese thing I'd want to put in an SRW fic is maybe Pacific Rim or Robotech: The Macross Saga. And possibly Godzilla (2014), and using that as a launching pad for the Pacific Rim plot, and then bringing in some of the Heisei and Millenium series Godzilla movies (that I can think of right now, Biollante and Megaguirus for specific movies; Ghidorah, Mothra, and Gigan are other big-name monsters that ought to come in, but using Godzilla 2014 as the starting point definitively cuts off Vs Destoroyah, Tokyo SOS, and Final Wars, so Destoroyah and Kiryu wouldn't get to make an appearance unless multiverse shenanigans or something).

The main Japanese thing I am totally insistent on putting in an SRW fic is The Brave Express Might Gaine, and I'd strongly prefer to use Tekkaman Blade as well. The next thing after that would be having a Mobile Fighter G Gundam plot that includes the Gundam Fight as well as the Dark Gundam. As far as Real Robot stuff goes, I guess I'm not too picky.
