No external signs and it did not interfere with everyday life, I think.
We do see an image of her in a hospital bed but I think that was after the final battle of her character arc, as we never see her piloting or even wearing her G-suit outside concept art.
...and this just occurred to me.
Mana was injured from the lack of inertial dampening.
You're looking for something she can pilot.
The Gunbuster has inertial dampeners and fairly-easy-to-learn motion capture.

@amita:.... first off, I suppose I should amend my earlier remark to "Mana does not have Action Girl capabilities at the time of her introduction". And in an SRW setting that has shows with more advanced medical facilities (like Gundam 00, perhaps), it's certainly possible that she could get a treatment that would allow her to resume asskicking.

My first thought would have been something like Slave Zero or something else that involves merging or mental projection or some other remote way of piloting while keeping the body safe.

Speaking of games, what do we think about putting Zone Of The Enders in an SRW? Since the first game takes place on a space colony near Jupiter, I imagine it could be meshed up with Crossbone Gundam...
And then IIRC the second game is set on Mars, which could potentially lend itself to some shenanigans for Martian Successor Nadesico...

Alright, here's what I have so far, thoughts and comments?
Inside the cockpit of a giant robot is Fubara. Arms crossed and awaiting for further orders. Before the simulation starts, he pressed a button to bring up a line of communiation.
“Master.”
“Yes?”
“Requesting the use of the prototype cleaving sword.”
Fubara could hear the giggling of his mentor from behind the speaker. The man blushes. “Man, lighten up, will ya!” The mentor-figure laughed across the speaker and made the man inside the cockpit more embarassed than before. “Listen, listen. ‘Requesting the use of the prototype cleaving sword’.” Said the mentor while immitating the voice of Fubara. This made the mentor laugh even more.
“Permission granted.” Said the voice from behind the speaker. “In return, you will fight the A.I at maximum level.”
“...I’ll gladly accept.”
Suddenly the inside of the cockpit went bright, and the main monitor turned on. The view is of a mountainfield surrounded by rain forest. On the sky, three mobile units capable of flight, and on land, five aries and three standard britannian knightmares.
Checking the equipment via a status monitor, Fubara starts his turn by dashing for the nearest Aries.
“...First target. Confirmed.”
Controlling the land unit custom, he opens his attack with a beam knife straight to the head of the Aries, before jumping backwards, twirls in mid-air while throwing a set barrages of beam knife. Ending the strike with pulling one of the beam knife and slashing the head of the machine into two.
With the swift end of the Aries, two Aries moved in for the kill. The A.I being set to maximum, they stopped just before they went inside the Land Custom’s close range attacks. Targeting the Land Custom, they pulled out their beam rifles and proceeds to shot at the Land Custom. Dodging the beam shot, he pulls out the Land Unit Beam Custom and aims it at one of the Aries’ head. Moving in a circular motion, he spins the Land Custom to the Aries’ side and fires the rifle at a point blank range. Piercing the head of the first Aries, and through the head of the first one, blasting the head of the second one after forcing them to be in a straight line. When te flight units starts to fire its barrages at the Land Unit, Fubara guards the hit before using the booster of the Land Unit and jumped on the uphill. Shooting the grappling hook onto the wing of one of the flight unit, and throwing them to the other. Destroying two out of three, with the third being destroyed by a point-blank beam rifle.
Landing on the ground, Fubara is greeted with two Aries’ pincer attack from the front and the back. Taking two beam knife from its holster, he threw it at the legs of the front aries and shooting it with the beam rifle. With the back one closing in and pulling out its own beam saber, Fubara retalliates with parrying the blade with the beam knife, and then shooting the Aries with the beam rifle on point blank.
Three enemies left. I can do this.
Bursting with willpower, Fubara dashes straight for the knightmare frames with the prototype cleaving sword at hand. When the first two knightmare frame moved in and hides behind a rock, Fubara leapted upwards and unseathes the blade. While above the knightmare, he swung it down and splits the knightmare frame into two and without fail leaps into the second knightmare frame. Slicing it with a circular motion and cuts it horizontally into two. The last knightmare frame, equipped with large golden spear, surprised the pilot of the land unit by grazing the head of the Land Unit with its large spear, but the Land Unit ultimately dodges the blow with minimal damages.
Moving away from the Knightmare frame, Fubara readies his sword.
Controlling his breathing, he paused before looking at the main screen again.
“I am Fubara Tohto. This blade is the blade that will slay all of my past sins!”
“Target confirmed! Proceeding to attack!!!” The land unit launches its grappling hook and it successfully hits the knightmare frame square on its right shoulder. Then, he pulls the machine closer to the Knightmare frame and with the help of the Land Unit’s own booster, he closes in furiously with his prototype cleaving blade ready to be unsheathed.
“The ultimate sure-kill attack.” Cries the pilot. Proceding himself with screaming on top of his lunge while closing in for the kill.
At the range of the Knightmare’s long-range attack of the Kniightmare frame, he unseathes the blade and outstretched the blade as far as it can be. The blade is then twirled to add centrifugal force, before cleaving the Knightmare frame into two with one single cleaving.
“Continent Cleaving Blade. BURST SLAAAIIIIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!”
Finishing the attack, the booster was then abruptly stopped and the Land Unit brakes itself with the hard landing on the ground. As it stops completely, the sword is slowly sheathed.
The knightmare explodes.
As the grappling hook went back to the Land Unit’s right arm, the Knightmare explodes again.
“Death greets everyone fairly.”
The first Mecha the original (Fubara Tohto) pilots is a test prototype of mass-produced Land Mobile Unit that is supposed to be the prototype of Lancelot. It was taken with permission from the Harold Arms and Constructions company to restart the project from ground. Seeing something inside Fubara, head of Harold's : Harold Belzerubh Mundi appoints Fubara to be the test pilot of The Animus project.
Animus Project itself is a codename of series of robots that uses synchronizations of brainwaves to operate. Kinda like the T-Link system.
Mana as Gunbuster's co-pilot.

Besides, that she used to be a T-RIDEN-T test pilot pretty much implies that internal injuries notwithstanding, she IS quite the badass.

About the early routes:
Fubara's Early Route
Fubara's route (Real Robot Pilot) has not yet been decided, but I want to try having him try to cross the border from Britannia to Germany, and from Germany to Japan where he'll be boarding the Nadesico where his route will then join with the Super Robot Pilot(s). Fubara will not get his Black Hole Engine until sometime later.
The Secret Route will play on its own route and will have minimal connections with the Real Robot and the Super Robot routes.

No, more to the effect of "I've barely even heard of that and didn't know it involved giant robots" + "I don't usually dabble in tabletop game stuff all that much".

This one is something I wrote for the first chapter of the super robot route. Need help for characterization and the real heroine. I prever for Parvataski, but...
A lone pilot inside the space carrier muttered to himself. Calm tone and straight face behind the helmet, he quietly steered the space carrier closer into the earth’s orbit. Dodging every rifle rounds and missiles launched onto it, he steadily made his way.
“Whoever pilots that Space Carrier is a very scary monster.”
“Yeah, but wolves devour monsters. Don’t be intimidated!”
Krystia moved her mech in-front of the nearest Aries from the Space Carrier and pulls out her Wolf Unit 00’s beam sword. Bringing up a transmission screen to the Aries’ pilot, she smiled for the other end. “Introduction: My name is Kritya Brandish. Nice to meet you!” Then, she fires the rifle’s round straight for the cockpit. It lands a critical hit through the aries that causes it to explodes. “Tch. I thought I’ll get more kick out of it.”
“My, you’re quite the sadist Miss Kristya.”
Following the attack, is Wolf Unit 01 piloted by Hawke. Using the thruster to move in a zig-zag way, she pulls out her short-range burst fire beam handguns and proceeds to dakka the aries behind the destroyed one. Circling it while decimating its arms and legs with her guns, she relieved the gun and proceeds to knee the Aries’ cockpit. Amongst the pile of dusts, the girl clicked her tongue as the Aries is still running and alive.
“Hawke, you need to be more sadistic than that.”
“Says the girl who gave the slip so easily.” Hawke rolled her eyes, sighing as she mocked her commander.
Don’t know what to say, Parvataski Troyne pulls out her multi-purpose sniper rifle and pulls the barrel, shortening the rifle into a handgun. “P-Parvataski Troyne, moving in for the kill.” Moving her own way into the previously-attacked Aries, she pulls out her handgun and aims it straight at the aries' cockpit, hitting it square for the kill... if the bullet wasn’t jammed. “E=Eh!? What do I do with this, oh no!” Confused and running out of option, she thrust the wolf unit 02’s hand into the cockpit, before pulling out and kicked the Aries away. Screaming and wailing of helplessness can be heard all the way from the moment she thrust the machine’s hand into the aries, until the aries explodes. The dumbstruck purple-haired blinks inside the Wolf unit 02
Sorry for the short update, but I've been busy watching and re-watching series. I'm also struggling with life and stuff.
On the bright side, I will be buying my pen-tablet today! Expect arts of those OC soon!

Now I need to decide which is the likely main character that can have the most emotional breakdown. Here's the name and short summaries of the Wolf Units. They're like Glory Stars from Z, but all of them females. The members consists of:
Kristya Brandish:
An ex-pilot who spends the rest of her youthful life as a merchant for hire. Usually quite hot-blooded and energetic, but on alone time, she always remembers how many screams ofdeaths that echoes through her mind. Her favorite place is the showers, for she can spend her alone time there with her sounds covered by the water that fell. She's the leader of the Orbital Elevator Defense Squadron 07. Aptly called "The Wolf Unit". She has issues regarding her sexuality. Drinking beer and a body of an amazon. A tomboy paragon for the tomboy...
Hawke Loone:
An ordinary pilot who loves to brag about her above average skills, and very excellent luck. She was by chance learned how to be skilled, learned how to shoot by chance, and became devoted to training by chance. Her life is full of coincidence and made her friendless. She had survived many tragedy by chance and vows to not have friends anymore. When she became a part of the wolf unit, it wasn't by chance, but by her own motivation. Since then, there's no coincidence happening around her. At least, not yet...
Parvataski Troyne:
A newbie pilot with the ability of a veteran. She's self-conscious and have low self-esteem issues. She was glad that commander Kristya hand-picked her from the "evil" training school. She was once bullied and committed a crime of murder under pressure and was sent to the yound adult juvenile training school. Her mind is as unstable as it can get, and she have a loving relationship with Kristya Brandish that borders on something else entirely. If ranked on chart, she is the likely to die first out of the three Wolf Unit in an ambush attack, but since Kristya Brandish and Hawke Loone love her company...

Original Mechas for the real and super robot pilots are all mook mechas which gets a super upgrade later on. The real robot is as stated before, an Arbalest-like mecha with its own version of Lambda Driver. While the Super Robot is a combining mech with a shrieking mess of a pilot that will outgrow her past self later on... or doesn't.
The secret is still a secret.
