Amazing Frog is great, though it isn't much of an "insight into game design" episode.

Thinking of friendship, I remember one episode where Danny was talking about Arin offering to fund one of his project, but I don't remember where it happened and it wasn't the episode focus. There are bits like that throughout the series that show that side to me, but it's hard to point to an episode in particular that focuses on it.

You could always watch the Date Grumps special, too.

[up] I think that might have been in Mega Man 2? Probably not though.

I remember actually liking the Megaman 2 playthrough.

Also, Amazing Frog did not disappoint. Got me to hold a real smile :D

Also check out Dennis the Menace. It's what got me into Game Grumps to start with.

I personally don't like that one as much as other people do... especially as I keep getting told it's the highlight of the Danny era. I really liked a lot of Jon's improv singing, and of course I know Danny is actually a pretty decent musician, but the song and episode just didn't really click for me.

Much like a pivotal episode I apparently skipped over, I fail to imagine a logical reason why Jon left.

Probably because of Arin's DSP syndrome combined with the nostalgia goggles fused to his eyelids driving Jon nuts.

Eh, I'd say the current highlight of the Dan era would be December 2013-March/April 2014.

I get the feeling no one knows the real reason, but more like we can only assume it was several of those you listed.

Jon Tron leaving was for the best, regardless of the reason. Danny is the best.

I feel like I'd he more forgiving of Sakura Spirit having seemingly no interactivity if it had any other apparent merit as a work. It's also really called my attention to how hypocritical it is to have a protagonist whom we're supposed to sympathize with as not being a pervert in a story that has a huge focus on oggling scantily-clad women.

It's a western VN that hasn't even gotten through so much as a spell-check. I doubt that quality is what the makers were striving for.

Their commentary in that game is hilarious. That game is also hilariously bad.

I just researched Star Bomb on Tvtropes, which led me to Ninja Sex Party.

..... and now I have my own theory for why Jontron had to leave...

Jontron is actually in an NSP video. It's my favourite NSP song as well, and every single Grump, past and present, had something to do with the video.

Party of Three.

Arin directs, Suzy was in charge of props, and Danny, Ross, Barry and Jon act in it.

It goes with anything else I have been telling prospective animators for years: BE GREAT IN SOMETHING AUDIO-RELATED. The main reason Star Bomb videos and NSP songs become viral hits is because they're founded on people who are excellent in singing, writing, rapping, playing music, and are business savvy. They don't simply sit on their butts drawing, which doesn't require any form of social connection! Arin can ad-lib short tunes on the fly in Game Grumps videos (the Mr. Wilson rap as an example) and they're all amazing!

Yeah Starbomb is amazing. I just wish there were more parts where Dan got to sing. Don't get me wrong, Arin's a great rapper, but Dans singing is phenomenal.

Today's Sakura Spirit episode. When Miyo is slimed, the lineart for her hair and left arm is still clearly visible through the slime covering it. The artists forgot to erase it. Wow, they really did put as little effort into this thing as possible, didn't they?

Despite that, the actual design and look of the game is impressive. ..... for still drawings. :P

I can't agree. I mean, alright, the art quality is fine, but the designs are... what even is that slime chick supposed to be? What even is? What. Even. Is? She makes no sense. She looks like she's been dipped in pepto bismal up to her neck. I don't think I could come up with a less appealing design without going purposely grotesque if I tried.

All the character designs are just generic sexy teenage girls. Even the spirits are just generic sexy teenage girls with a pair of ears or horns stuck on 'em. These designs are completely generic and lazy. I mean, I set the bar pretty low for an ecchi game, but they aren't even trying here.

[up] Slime girls are a popular fetish. I don't understand it as much as you don't, but might as well throw them in the game. The bright pink color choice was not a smart one.
