The trope has no clear requirement for the tech to be better (and whether MiGs are inferior to western planes is often debated).

I like the planes.
Of course the MiGs weren't as good than the western planes. They were built by the ancient Egyptians, clearly proven by these pictures, ages before western civilisation invented flight. It would be terrible if the western world couldn't come up with something better thousands of years later... Duh.

Recently launched from YKTTW, and I promised the sponsor IPD'd at least give it a stab.
Only problem is, I've been looking on GIS for a while now, trying to find some kind of image of an archaeological dig site where they find some obvious weapon/mecha, but I'm mostly turning up empty. I know I've seen something to this effect before, why can't I find much now?
Well, I guess I turned up this set of images of a MiG being dug out of the sand
. In context, not really an example (recovering Russia's old technology when we have plenty of similar, superior airplanes on hand), but out of context, maybe it'd work?
