The road goes ever on. -TolkienHa ha. No. We don't even study The Merchant Of Venice at my school. It's just an interesting scenario because I thought of all those Shakespeare-in-High School! remakes and this is one that hasn't really been tried AFAIK.

The road goes ever on. -TolkienIs anyone else interested in this challenge, or am I the only one? Is it even transferrable to a modern setting? Maybe in an alternate Dungeon Punk world high school where Jessica is homeschooled by her overprotective All Devouring Black Hole Loan Shark/pawnbroker father. Or maybe it's Steampunk.

The road goes ever on. -TolkienWhy not just, you know, write something new? You talk a lot about rewriting older works in new settings, but isn't it a better tribute to the kind of works that you admire to write something entirely original that inspires the same feeling? It's more of a challenge, yes, but I think that's the point here, and what's more the results are so much more satisfying.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.@JHM: I'm actually not planning on doing this for a long time.

Anyone want to take up this challenge? Retell The Merchant Of Venice in a high school setting and make the Jessica/Lorenzo subplot more prominent.
