Then there are those ads for Purple mattresses that are four minutes long.
Why is it that if a channel has been deleted or removed, if someone is subscribed to it, said channel still shows up in that persons subscriptions? I have several deleted channels in my subscriptions box, is there any way to get rid of them?
Just unsubscribe it. Visit the now deleted channel and click unsubscribe.
Wasn't sure where to put this so I thought I'd just mention it in the youtube thread. Mona Marshall , the voice of Kyle's Mom / Mrs Brofloski on South Park, Digimon, Dot Hack ,and various games, etc started a youtube channel about voice acting.
So I managed to find myself a Firefox extension that allows me to disable YT's DASH playback. After YouTube Center stopped with their updates (and possibly got screwed over by Firefox), this is a breath of fresh air.
The bad news is that it's limited to 720p at 30fps, and 360p.
So the holy grail for YT DASH-disabling extensions is one that allows at least 720p at 60fps—or at least an extension that allows DASH, but buffers segments in bigger chunks than the default one-minute chunks YT currently does.
"Learn as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow."Never even heard of YT DASH. What is that?
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. It's a method of video playback used by the site. It gave a lot of people buffering problems a while back, but seems to have mostly stopped being an issue for many people
YT = Abbreviation for YouTube.
DASH playback - 'd. Read this page for a more detailed explanation.
I was talking about wanting to find apps that disable DASH playback on YouTube while still allowing (at least) 720p video resolution at 60 frames fer second.
P.S. (Detailed explanation + Slight Rant): Please don't downplay it being a non-issue. For some users (those with erratic Internet speeds), DASH Playback's flaws still pop up from time to time (otherwise, it wouldn't be considered a Scrappy Mechanic). And while it's relatively easy to circumvent for PC via apps (albeit with limited quality options—no 60fps), that's currently not possible on other machines like Smart TVs (where I'd prefer to watch most of the time). Heck, there's no fricking way to adjust the video quality on that platform!
And to compound things, those ads that play in the middle of the video take away resources from the video you're actually trying to watch (Have you noticed how video ads are in high quality resolution?) and when you do skip the ad (heck, even if you do let it play), it downgrades the quality of the actual video you're watching. Again, it is worse on Smart TVs as there's no fricking way to adjust the video quality on that platform. (Or block ads, for that matter.)
(*Deep breaths*) If that sounded angry, apologies are in order. But there are days when it's just better to be blunt and get to the point.

"Learn as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow."I'm not sure how many times if this was mentioned, but I wish that You Tube has a function that shows you if you watched a video already. Like, "Watched" tag.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.I think it used to have something like that, but it was removed.
Does the red bar that appears at thumbnail make an acceptable substitute?
I'm looking at a whole bunch of videos right now that have a box that says "WATCHED" along with a slightly gray filter and the red duration bar.
It's not permanent, though - I think it sticks around for one to two months, then the video's unmarked as "viewed".
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)That red bar bothers me so much. I hate seeing videos with partial bars even though I've seen the whole thing, and even seeing the full bar I hate because it won't go away. GAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH-
I don't get it at all, so...

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Went to VidCon today, had a lot of fun. Attended some panels with Annie Segara and Ingrid Nilsen, saw Burnie from Rooster Teeth, and helped someone beat Donkey Kong for the first time. Also, alas, I didn't get to see this, but...

Basically it was just people's knee-jerk reaction to anything regarding feminism, combined with the gaming community's persecution complex.
What's really funny to me is that people like Sargon, if anything, just made her more and more prominent by bitching about her endlessly instead of just, you know, disagreeing with her and moving on.
I'm not a big fan of Sarkeesian myself (nor the fact that people seem to think that she's representative of all feminist views, but whatever, that's not really her fault), though I don't disagree with her overall point about how women tend to be treated in media.

Thanks for explaining.
Oh, also, found a video of the incident.
1 2 We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be. -KVI don't really care for Sarkeesian. I don't agree with some of her views.
Sarkeesian gets too much hate and to be honest I feel like her haters who never shut up about her, like Sargon and Thunderf00t, are complete and utter garbage. She's been misrepresented so much that I honestly feel like a lot of the reasons people give for disliking her aren't even things she's actually said, but misinterpretations or outright lies spewed out by people who make a living ranting about "Le SJW's".

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Basically this. It's hard to have an honest discussion and critique of the videos these days because of all the bile. The truth is, even with the honest caveats and criticisms of the videos that hold water, the vast majority of it was a kneejerk reaction because she dared to critique videogames for their portrayal of women.
It's honestly creepy how fixated they are on her too. I've heard that thunderfoot has actually dialed it back down a bit, partly because his hatred of Donald Trump has created a rift between him and all the other people who subscribe to him for his anti-feminist videos and made him reconsider what he's been doing this whole time.

Youtube ads have gotten wiser to the fact that we skip them 5 seconds into them to the extent that they now try to explain everything to you in the first 5 seconds, and then spend the rest of their runtime on the actual commercial. Some ads are even 5 seconds in their entirety now!
