BBC breaking news have just reported that Salmond is going to stand down after losing the vote.

Very interesting if you want to get a clear sense of how strong the Yes and No votes were in different areas rather than just which got a majority in each council.
So the two areas with the highest unemployment rates both voted No? That's very interesting.
Schild und Schwert der Partei[]quoteblock]] I'm torn at the suggestion, on one hand I think it would be great for both Scottish Labour and Scotland, on the other I once had a dream that involved being chased across the Kentish countryside by special ops people, in Black Hawk helicopters, from an independent Scotland lead by Gordon Brown.[[ I had fun memories murdering Russian separatists soap Mc Tavish.
hashtagsarestupidAll the news sites are observing that low-income, unemployed, and younger people were more likely to vote "Yes". That's definitely something that needs to be addressed - it shows that desire for separation is less based on ethnic nationalism than on economic disaffection and deprivation. Address people's economic struggles, and support for separation should decline further.
Incidentally, kudos to the SNP for not making this about ethnic nationalism. It's a huge and positive contrast to Québec nationalist parties, which tend towards xenophobia.

It appears the 45% that want to go are pretty much evenly spread throughout the entire country. I guess that puts an Ireland-style split off the cards.
Salmond had to go, there was no way he could continue on from here.
Next leader...Sturgeon is the obvious one, but she won't be the only candidate. John Swinny will probably stand for one.

'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'Salmond actually left because he's seen the movie Braveheart and didn't like the ending.

'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'Question, assuming they do get a devolved English parliament through, where would it be located? Birmingham? York?
It should be located in either York, Manchester or Liverpool.

Birmingham gets my vote. It's England's second city and located in the Midlands, which I think is ideal. I also think that when smaller cities become capitals they can become overwhelmed by it and everything not to do with government is overshadowed.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiI'm hearing reports the Orange Order are out in force in Glasgow, screaming sectarian abuse.
Fuck sake, exactly what I feared...
My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username. And people are already posting videos to You Tube "proving" that the vote was rigged.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Was this vote even remotely decided on the basis of sectarian lines? The Orange Order is as archaic as it is repulsive.
Orangemen need to face the same stigma as neo-Nazis and other racists...

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Decided on, no. But Orangemen likely backed the Union en masse.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiNot to mention, the Orange Order officially backed the No campaign. Better Together publicly told them to fuck off, but that doesn't change their support. And now they're determined to ruin the victory parade.
My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username. Please tell me "victory parade" was rhetorical? There's not going to be an actual parade, is there.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiIt was rhetorical. I just meant celebrations really.
My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username. Is the info regarding how age/religion/ethnicity/origin/etc demographics voted available yet? Or is that still being crunched.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. At what point do the Oranges get done for inciting?
"Yup. That tasted purple."
Ah. Seeing that come one step closer could be a bit disconcerting, yes?
EDIT: I dreamt this wouldn't turn out to be a topper. Nothing but failure did I get.
