And here I was thinking a big punk fan responded really quickly.
If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.I do like punk, though I'm not particularly well-versed in the genre. The few punk artists I have music from include The Ramones, Black Flag, Teen Idles, Bomb The Music Industry, the Dropkick Murphys, Green Day, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, a single NOFX live album, and that Short Music For Short People album.
And I suppose you can include Jimmy Eat World and Fall Out Boy if you're using a loose definition of pop punk.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I don't like pop punk, particularly.
If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.Punk is very hit or miss for me. I like The Clash, and The Dingees (who really wanted to be The Clash, and actually made it work more often than not), and Flogging Molly.
And The Cramps are considered punk apparently? Regardless of what you call them, they're good.

Ironically, I like The Clash's non-punk songs more than the punk stuff.
If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.I don't know if I'd go that far, but I do like London Calling and Combat Rock more than their self-titled debut. I still lack Give 'Em Enough Rope and Sandinista; I intend to acquire the latter but not the former.
I have a couple of Clash songs, but not enough to be considered a fan I'd say. They're on my list.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I'll get around to them.
If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.I guess I'll recommend Social Distortion if you haven't checked them out already.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes.Well, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes might be a good one to get into if you like a little humor in your music and if you like covers. They're a supergroup comprised of members of various punk bands whose discography consists solely of punk covers of non-punk songs, with each of their album being themed around a certain genre (e.g.: '60s pop, R&B, country, showtunes, that one live album they supposedly recorded at some kid's Bar Mitzvah...).

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I've listened to enough of their stuff to know that they are pretty good. That being said, I'm not sure if there are many worse band names in all of music. Basically, great band, lousy name.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes. It's a punk band. Cheesy names are par for the course
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I can't be too hard on Me First and the Gimme Gimmes as a band name, because it at least fits their level of seriousness - if the moniker were attached to anything remotely serious it'd be ridiculous, but they're just doing silly punk covers of non-punk songs, so it makes sense to have kind of a dumb name.
I first started getting into punk via compilations = Punk-O-Rama and pretty much anything else in that same category of super-cheap label samplers *. Now I kind of want to get back to compilations, but ones that document a particular scene - examples I've heard already would be Dischord 1981: The Year In 7"s (DC hardcore - Minor Threat, Government Issue, etc) and This Is Boston Not LA (Boston hardcore naturally - not a lot of names non-casual fans would know, but some pretty cool stuff).
And then there's The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Another band you should check out, by the way, but also perhaps not the greatest name.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes. They're ska-punk, right?
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Yeah.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones were originally just The Bosstones until they found out there had been another band called that, ymmv if that would have been a better name - people tend to just call them The Bosstones for short anyway though. I saw them live around New Years and they put on a great show. Oh, and one of the things I like about them is they occasionally do more Hardcore Punk-influenced stuff, which you wouldn't expect if you've just heard their Signature Song. The Ska-core The Devil And More EP is pretty fun because it's got three hardcore covers (of Minor Threat, Angry Samoans, and Gang Green) with horns in a row... and then that's followed up with a Bob Marley song.
DROP DEAD
Seems like most of you guys are pretty focused on old proto-punk and 70's stuff. Doesn't anyone listen to hardcorde anymore? It's basically the only punk that's still around that isn't either fused with metal or pop.
Hardcore is my favourite type of punk.
I think you just clued me into where my friend got the idea for his band's name.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. No kidding?
This thread needs some Bad Religion.
Really? We don't have a punk thread?
So I'm listening to 80s punk a lot this week, like Black Flag, Minutemen, Husker Du, the Dead Kennedys, and the Misfits. Also heard Refused's The Shape of Punk To Come and it's awesome. After I'm done with the classic bands, where should I go with punk next.
