More so than Taekwondo?
What about showjumping? That's the sport that actually kills and maims people. Boxing has a tiny injury count in comparison.
Damn it, I always miss the boxing! That's the only one I remotely care about in addition to swimming, judo, and archery!
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Boxing can cause concussions, so I can understand objecting to it and not to, say, judo. But I agree it's not the most dangerous sport in the Olympics (that place probably goes to BMX - I was watching the quarterfinals today and saw several mass crashes, and Canada's only male contestant just recently had an operation to remove his spleen after a particularly bad crash and has also broken several bones in the past, including his collarbone).
I can't understand how BMX became an Olympic sport.
It's not over. Not yet.By getting the world champion to petition. I think.
They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!I had no idea BMX was so dangerous. More respect to those who compete.
Perhaps the IOC wanted to appear more XTREEEEEEEEEEEEME.
If we can have BMX, then we should bring back Poetry.
It's not over. Not yet.Next we need to bring back men's synchronised swimming.
Can we get air racing as an Olympic sport?
A different shape every step I take A different mind every step of the lineI want foosball to be an olympic sport.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterI would watch Olympic-level futsal.
...oh man, that would be crazy intense.
Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia!I hear we'll have Olympic rugby next time. Woot!
Something that surprises me is that none of the 'hit a ball with a stick and run like hell' sports are featured. Why no baseball, no cricket? It's not like these are too unpopular or obscure to have at the Olympics...
Mache dich, mein Herze, rein...They have previously been played at the Olympics. I believe they were withdrawn because only a handful of countries sent athletes to compete in them.
Also, golf will be an Olympic Event at Rio.
It's not over. Not yet.I watched the Taekwondo at my gran's house yesterday. I have no idea what the rules are, so it was just two women kicking each other in the face for me.
"Steel wins battles. Gold wins wars."Adults on bmx bikes look silly to me. I am looking forward to the mountain biking. Should be fun to see things that look more like motor bikes without the engines careering down massive hills.
I watched some of the men's BMX quarter-finals yesterday. It has just the right combination of silly (grown men on those flimsy bikes, pedalling ridiculously fast because they're apparently always in first gear) and spectacular to make it a lot of fun to watch.
Mache dich, mein Herze, rein...Olympic Rugby? Olympic Golf? Yay, sports Ireland has a chance in!
They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver! You want a sport Ireland has a chance in?
Two Words: Competitive drinking (Russia will offer some stiff competition, though).

Everything is Possible. But somethings are more Probable than others.Nah. Competitive Tea drinking? Sure. According to to Guinness, we beat everyone, even the British, at that.
And Ireland is very good at rugby. Well, Munster is good at rugby. They've beaten the All-Blacks and nearly replicated that recently.
Anyone know why Karate is not in the games and Tae Kwon Do is?
It did not get enough votes in the International Olympic Committee, the other Wiki tells me. It got over half the votes in 2009 (when they voted for events for 2012), but it did not get the required two thirds. It will also not be present at the 2016 games.
...as for the reason why the committee-members did not vote for it, I do not know.
Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia! One of the requirement for a sport to be in the Olympics is that there has to be above a certain number of countries and people that are competitive in it. They've actually considered taking out women's ice hockey for that reason, because the gold medal match is always between the US and Canada, and we typically clobber all the other teams. Although in my view the same applies to table tennis, where China goes gold-silver in most of the matches.
Let us not forget Men's Basketball. Which the US always wins.
Bah, Basketball is not a real sport. Reaching your arms way over your head is not a sport.
I'm a skeptical squirrel
Good result for the Dutch. 9-2 is a bit of a cuffing but at least there is a chance of getting the Bronze Medal for the British team.
As for the Boxing, well, I am not cheering. Not this medal, not this time. The woman did well but I would much rather the sport did not exist.
