This thread is for those of us who like to make models of things.

Not the other kind of modelling.

Planes, tanks, cars, whatever. Anything goes. Including models made for the purposes of tabletop gaming. Kitbashing, scratchbuilding, whatever.

So is there anyone else working on anything at the moment? Whilst I have made model kits since I was very small, it's always been an on/off thing, and I've only recently rediscovered my passion for it. I have two things in the pipeline at the moment, both 1:72 scale: one Fw-190D and one Me-262A. The latter also came with a de Havilland Mosquito, but I've yet to get round to that one in any capacity.

I don't have any projects underway at the moment, but I do know my way around the glue and paint. *

Nearly finished, just have a few more decals to apply and a touch more paint.

I used to do a LOT of this when I was younger. Biggest project I ever did was the B-36 in 1/72, which at the time was billed as the "largest plastic model airplane kit EVER". May still be.

A brighter future for a darker age.

The only modelling I ever did was building a Batmobile when I was seven or eight. It was pretty fun, though I don't have the expendable income to do more.

The only modeling I ever did was for my friends' pictures.

Other types of modeling.....maybe airplanes. I don't know. It depends on what one considers modeling.

I have shitloads of models. Second World War aircraft, vehicles and figures and a crap-tonne of 40K stuff.

Yes, I thought people might be under that impression. Hence the disclaimer. When I was very young, I once proudly announced that I liked modelling at school, and I got a fair few funny looks for it. tongue

Does 3D modeling (or, to be more precise, trying to learn 3D modeling) counts? I've been playing with povray a bit in the last few months — I'm still horrible at it, but it's entertaining.

Again, go for it, I say. Models are models, be they physical or digital.

In that case, Lego modelling is definitly something I spend a lot of time on. I recently took 3D a modelling class and found that making stuff in 3D studio is really fun, even if it can be Nintendo Hard at times.

Most of the modelling I used to do was for Warhammer 40k. I've done a few model planes and Gundams but never really finished them, especially an F-15 that I tried to paint in the colors of the player character from Ace Combat Zero The Belkan War. I stupidly forgot that painting white is ridiculously hard.

I do 1/6 scale OOAK dolls. I'm guessing it counts because it's pretty close sometimes.

This is an example.

It counts. I'm not going to turn my nose up at someone and say "Pah, that's not true modelling", especially seeing as I am an enthusiastic amateur at best tongue

Anyway, going back to my Fw-190, I decided not to bother with the incredibly tiny decals that you really wouldn't notice (warning panels on the undercarriage and fuselage, mostly). Mainly because the damn things come apart on my fingers. Master of decals, I am not. So I'm now in the process of varnishing it, which I've never done to a model kit before (but I really should have...)

In other news, I purchased a 1:72 Bf-109G-6 kit because a) I don't have enough models yet b) I go weak at the knees for WW 2-era German military hardware, for some reason and c) that bad boy was just sitting on the shelf asking to be bought.

My girlfriend has actually decided to try her hand at modelling, which is why there's a freshly painted 1:72 Mustang pilot slowly drying on my table at the moment. I have no idea whether or not she'll stick with it, but if not, free P-51D kit for me!

In other news, I managed to fuck up gluing the undercarriage of a Bf-109G, so I think an email or two to Hornby is in order...

[up] What sort of glue do you use? You might be able to remedy that with a soak in a solvent, assuming the model isn't plastic, and you haven't started painting or applying decals yet.

Meanwhile, I'm working on the beading for a 1:6 ancient Egyptian collar. I think the 11/0 beads I got are too large (and they're cheap, so they're irregularly shaped, which is also bothering me), so I might have to go searching for more 13/0 in the colors I want. Bah.

Yes, the model is plastic, with the result that the legs of the undercarriage have kind of melted into their sockets. Pretty irrepairable. tongue At least Hornby provide replacement parts completely free of charge, which is nice of them.

Crazy little rooms in boxes? Cool. grin

I recently dusted off the Blackburn Buccaneer I built a while ago again. I still think, the colour scheme looks pretty good, even if I completely made it up.
