That's rather clever. The readings literally go off the scale, then continue outside the scale and are projected in the air.
Keep Until Better Image Suggested.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Sounds suspiciously like Did Not Read Article support. It has little or nothing to do with that.
v Um, huh?

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Wow man, there's no need to get all insulting over this.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I like this. :)
That would work as a page quote, but the image adds nothing to it. The current image works better.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!I like this suggestion, the current looks like another trope entirely.
The current pic on Explosive Instrumentation is fine. I think the current pic could be downsized a bit, but other than that it's a Keep Until Better Image Suggested case for me. I'm not crazy about the speedometer idea.
The trope is about taking measurements. Not scales blowing up.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I don't like #6 because without the wordy caption, it just looks like someone's going at 120mph. The current one isn't excellent, but I think it's better. It can be trimmed to panels 2 and 4.
If we do come up with a new one here, can the current (in two-panel form) go to Readings Blew Up the Scale? That image is small, grainy, black-and-white, and doesn't show a scale.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. That one was chosen in its own IP thread.
Hold on a tic. What happened to the picture of Battler? The one with someone having him under some kind of scanner, and he was exhibiting a magic resistance value of 9999999999 or something?
Much as I like the shattering of the Spiral Energy meter, for quite literally going off the scale and into thin air, the Battler pic was chosen in a previous Image Pickin'. What happened?
Edit: It was this one. Was this changed to the GL example without a thread?

I have a message from another time...It would be possible to lose the first part of the four part current image. Otherwise, it's fine and clearly illustrates the trope.
I've got no idea where it's from.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.I would be more comfortable using it if we could get some reactions from people who aren't familiar with the show. See if they can discern what's going on just from the image and the trope's name.
But, again, I think we should return the Battler pic until we come to a decision. Unless it was removed though an Image Pickin' thread when I wasn't looking?

I have a message from another time...I haven't seen any of the works images are from in this thread. I'd be fine with #14; I think it is clear and concise.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. The swirly rainbow thing looks like some kind of portal going haywire. Obviously, it has to be a gauge going off the scale because it's on this page, but still...
I think the speedometer is good, it doesn't look like it is pointing at 120 but could be easily modified to go further past it◊. Dunno how it could possibly be "just a caption", works on its own without one at all. And it's a scale everyone is familiar with.
#14 is fine. Way better than current.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Modified speedometer works. The unmodified one doesn't. And I think the Battler one has just about the same problem. It's possible to interpret it literally without stretching it.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything. The trope is really not about cars driving slightly over the speed limit, so I don't think the speedometer image works here. It's also rather bland.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! The reading of the car's speed is off the scale, though.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything. So is the current pic, and the current does a better job at illustrating it.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Well, that I've not argued against.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.I thought the Battler one was good because it's rather clear that it's hit whatever cap the system has, and gone beyond, to have a massive string of nines.
I'm also partial to the GL pic, but I know the series, so my testimony is biased and therefore, less than reliable.

I have a message from another time...
Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
What is this? Four panels. Zoomed the same in the first two, then more in the third, then more in the fourth? Took me a while to figure that out. And it's not the trope, it is some kind of scale (I think?) blowing up. Kind of hard to tell what the trope is supposed to be about, actually. An image might help, but this one is worse than nothing.
