So?
I mean that as a serious question, btw. Your answer is a non-sequitur.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comNote that I said "justified" They Changed It, Now It Sucks! (and I also meant for pre-release reactions, my fault for not clarifying but the point still stands). And the point of that trope is epitomized by the picture, where people complain on the simple fact that it is different and ignore the possibility that there are legitimate artistic reasons behind the changes. If a movie is too slavishly faithful to the original source it calls into question of why even bothering with a remake if they are only rehashing the exact same stuff. I tend to be more interested in the reasons why something was changed than rage at how it is "raping" the source material.
I know with the Starship Troopers movie a lot of people have said it is actually an ingenious satire, common with Verhoevens work, it just clashed so much with the original book that it turned people off from it. Also it seemed only Neil Patrick Harris and maybe Michael Ironside really got the joke, which also worked against it.
That's why they changed it. I don't think a German director would be comfortable directing a straightlaced movie that basically glorifies surrendering civil liberties to the government.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatHe's Belgian.
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsAlso, reducing Starship Troopers to "no civil liberties! fascism!" is. . . really missing the point of the book. Or rather, reading the book, and not actually paying attention to what is happening in it. Its not a modern liberal democracy, that is true, but not *everything* lacking in universal adulthood suffrage is a fascist state.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comEither way, Starship Troopers pulled Veerhoeven's trigger, the man was born just as the Nazis started into his home. You can understand why he wouldn't be enthused about directing a movie glorifying the Spartan Way.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatHe and the producers to Bug Hunt on Outpost 9 should never have hijacked the rights.
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsThat would be Disney; I believe Starship Troopers is a Touchstone release.
But honestly, do you really think that a straight-faced Starship Troopers adaptation would gain ANY praise in today's film culture, let alone in the 90's?
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatYes if it was titled Halo: The Movie.
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsYes, but Halo ends with both sides putting aside their differences and stopping two consecutive universe-threatening disasters. Heinlein would never put something like that in.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatExcept thats not what happens. The Elites switch sides and the war swings into humanities favor and the Covenant is physically destroyed by military force and the assassination of its leadership.
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsThey stopped the Prophet from firing all the rings, and the Chief and Arbiter destroyed Gravemind, preventing a Flood infestation. I'd say that's enough for them to at least declare a cease-fire.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatSomething about Paul Veorhoven movies?
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsPaul Verhoeven is Dutch. Lived through the Hunger Winter between 1944 and 1945 in Holland, plus the preceding German occupation. That's probably why the uniforms his Mobile Infantry and Games and Theory troops looked so much like updated Wehrmacht and Sicherheitsdienst clothing - he saw the originals at first hand.
Does Robocop get a jetpack in this movie?
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsNo, but he can leap buikding in a single bound! He's becoming a Man of Steal!
They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!Brad Jones has, on Twitter, nailed down exactly what's wrong with a PG-13 Robocop remake: https://twitter.com/MisterBibs/status/397601296045182977
He also nailed down what the remake IS instead of Robocop
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatSo...if you cut out all the ultra violence, the movie would be...shorter? Why not just replace it with regular violence?
Because then it would lose it's impact.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI rather doubt it. There have been plenty of violent films and moments in films that lose no impact by not showing you every gory detail.
The movie definitely loses its impact with "regular violence", especially because several scenes are meant to be Bloody Hilarious.
Which movie? The new movie? Is it even out yet?
The old one.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the Great
Because the book was a glowing endorsement of the military-industrial complex.
