I say make this Distracted Driving - the trope where drivers manage to drive without looking at the road. Cut all the other content, and if people want to YKTTW pages for other driving tropes, let them.
What I want to do with this:
- Create a trope about distracted driving in general (Not sure about type)
- Turn this into an index (a lot of driving things Hollywood does that are either illegal in real life or noone does it like that.
- Send this to Special Efforts, but this thread is barely active.
Any opinions?
I say other points about bad or illegal driving should go through YKTTW, which is the place for collecting examples and building tropes. This page is primarily about distracted driving, and we should clarify and rename it as such.
Crowner melded to thread.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Ready to call this?
Bump for votes.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerIf the top option passes, it shouldn't be called Distracted Driving, or it'll attract ALL instances of distracted driving, and not just the specific type for the specific reasons called for in this trope.
^ I am inclined to agree.
I am almost inclined to agree.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThere's nothing on distracted driving on this site. Maybe even doing-something-else-and-driving-at-the-same-time. There's at least a Missing Supertrope.

YKTTW is the place for new tropes.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThis one is very ready to be called for the leading action.

There's already a trope in YKTTW called Artistic License - Cars that covers various other aspects of driving and vehicular mistakes.
Bump. Think the YKTTW looks a lot better than Hollywood Driving, and the latter might need to start over from YKTTW.
The YKTTW is just "miscellaneous errors related to cars." It's no better than any of the existing Artistic License X pages.
Hollywood Driving is related to cars (it's being driven in a way that shouldn't be possible).
I'd say it fits as a subtrope.

Hmm - this crowner calls for an Alt-Names crowner. The YKTTW is a nice enrichment, though.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanArtistic License – Cars has been launched.
Before it crashed, the crowner said to restrict this to the trope described in the definition - "characters look at the passenger instead of the road" and rename accordingly.
How about Keep Your Eyes On The Road?
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Agree.
EDIT: Except it's a Stock Phrase and could be confused with people telling folks to keep their eyes on the road.

Why not change it to Distracted Driving?
It's not about distracted driving though. That implies people on the phone or texting or whatever while driving. That's not a fictional trope - it happens in fiction, but nowhere as often as it does in real life. This page is for the near-universal trope whereby drivers face their passengers instead of the road.
Crown Description:
"Hollywood Driving" chiefly covers one concept - drivers on screen looking at the passenger rather than the road. It touches briefly on other driving topics as well.
Where to start? First, 1st sentence of description describes a type of Distracted Driving, then it continues as 'cars don't steer like that', then it goes all over the place, including the examples. This should be an index (or transplanted), and a new index about distracted driving should be made. Looks like the creator was a little distracted This is a big issue in real life, and examples can get very unusual.
