For me, Lungfishopololis and the Napoleon one, the name of which I forget, are my favourites. I found the latter to be a nice change of pace, while the former was an absolute blast to play through. Also, squishing every last Lungfish while crushing the orphanage for puppies.

[up][up]But the music was so good!

I actually disliked lungfishopolis first playthrough. I enjoyed it last playthrough though.

Only mindscapes I don't like are the brain tumbler and the Meat circus.

As for my favorite camper, probably Nils. Funny I actually live fairly close to his hometown(Long Beach, CA).

I like how in Lungfishopolis, your added weight means you can't flip in mid-air before stomping. So instead of a hand symbol, the attack has a foot symbol. Attention to detail! Also, Lungfishopolis' boss wins.

I can't decide on Black Velvetopia, Waterloo, Lungfishopolis and Milkman Conspiracy for favorite mental world. Kochamara wins favorite boss hands down, though.

Ignoring other criteria, I actually think Milla's dance party wins on the basis of "manifestation and exploration of character's psychology" purely because of that room.

Well, there's Gloria's theatre but one gets sick of the mother issues during the playthrough.

[up]Don't you mean Milla ? And yes, THAT ROOM leaves me speechless every time I get to it.

Favourite mental world is Milkman Conspiracy, and favourite campers are the two cheerful-but-actually-suicidal kids. Although Dogen is close too. A good thing you can't explore his mind, because... That wouldn't be pretty...

I'm gonna have to say Waterloo World. While it's not the strangest, most extravagant place, it just somehow stood out for me. And the remix of "1812" by Tsjaikovsky was brilliant.

In fact, does anyone here know why that one wasn't one the Original Soundtrack collection? I noticed a lot of other great tracks like the Basic Braining and Milla's Dance Party BGM were also missing, by the way.

Some tracks were mixed in with others, although I admit that I don't remember Milla's Dance Party in there anywhere.

...Or am I thinking of the wrong set of music? I know there were two sets. >_>

Well, I got both from the Humble Indie Bundle, but one of them is the cutscene score, while the other is actual BGM. And I know that the theme of Cruller's sanctuary was mixed into the title and end credits medley, but no other track was mixed in anywhere. They're just not on there. Which is an immense pity.

Got the game through Humble Bundle. Always wanted to play this one, don't know why it's taken me so long to do so. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

Favourite mindscape is a hard one. I really liked all of the the asylum patients' levels, The Milkman Conspiracy, Waterloo World and Black Velvetopia. Gloria's Theatre was 'Just Okay', but that might be just the fact that it was simply Overshadowed by Awesome.

Favourite campers were Dogen and Mikhail.

The only complaint about the game I have, apart from the kind of shabby technical execution, are the boss battles. Everything else in the game was so wonderfully clever, creative and imaginative, so it's a bit of a letdown when the bosses are mostly of the basic 'figure out the trick X and repeat it thrice' variety. Contradicting that last statement I'm also a bit disappointment that I didn't get to fight Dr. Loboto. He was such a delightful Mad Doctor.

I wasn't super fond of waterloo but Black Velvetopia is my favorite level in the game.

Since I like overthinking, I like to think that because Boyd and Milla have similar Nightmares, Boyd may have started the fire that burned down the orphanage. Anybody else think so?

Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the Great

[up] The Doylist explanation is that the subplot concerning Milla's nightmares were cut, and they wanted to cram the leftover bosses somewhere, so they chose the otherwise Combat-free Milkman Conspiracy level for that.

That said, in this case I like the Watsonian explanation more. I support that theory just because it adds more layers to the game.

You know what? I think I'm gonna go over each level...

  • Whispering Rock: Really nice overworld with plenty of places to explore. Love all the special conversations you can uncover and the convincing layout of the place.

  • Basic Braining: Classic platforming level with a really striking war atmosphere that's both funny and a little bit creepy. Oddly, I still can't get the music for this one out of my head.

  • Milla's Dance Party: Another cool level with a signature easter egg and a general feeling of fun. The race at the end is a bit of a nightmare to collect all the Figments, but it's still a nicely designed level built around my favorite power in the game.

  • Sasha's Shooting Gallery: A really inventive level making use of a single cube and several surreal obstacles. Probably the first time a level seems to truly reflect the respective mind, rather than being a fabricated obstacle course.

  • The Brain Tumbler Experiment: Really linear stage with a nice and dark atmosphere. Not the most exciting or inventive, but gets its job done.

  • Lungfishopolis: Probably the most "normal" looking level, if you ignore all the lungfish. Also interesting in how it changes the gameplay by making you slower and removing your ability to levitate, but the stage itself is still fun and well crafted even without your agility.

  • The Milkman Conspiracy: Creepy, awesome, and more than a little reminiscent of a point and click adventure game. Probably the most memorable cast of any individual level, too.

  • Black Velvetopia: My favorite level, if only for the art direction. Fairly linear, but the conversations are funny, as are the bosses and Ford's hints on how to beat them.

  • Gloria's Theater: An inventively minimalistic level, like Sasha's Theater. Cool gimmick, though a little repetitive, especially if you're like me and want to see everything.

  • Waterloo World: Probably the largest and most explorable level in the game. Story's probably the weakest of all the Asylum levels, though, as it lacks their emotional weight and a proper boss fight.

  • Thorny Towers: Grounds are a bit claustrophobic compared to the camp, but the creepy clouds are a nice touch. The tower might be one of the most vertigo inducing levels of all time, though, what with the crazy ways the tower twists as you climb. Not to mention Sheegor being kinda startling before you actually meet her.

  • The Meat Circus: A satisfyingly challenging and twisted final level with the most nightmarish mooks of all time. Really linear, making going back for collectables a pain, but I love how climatic it feels.

To me personally, Waterloo World was the most nightmarish one to collect all the figments from. Milla's Dance Party and Black Velvetopia have colour schemes that make finding the figments hard, but when you do find them, they are rather easy to collect. In Waterloo World there are so many figments in highly visible places nigh impossible to reach. I can't even count how many times I floated down from those bloody chimney smoke trails, missing the figment X by half an inch over and over again.
