So, essentially Harry became the first Wizard Troper?
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobKinda. Only for a narrow range of stories, though.
Genre Savvy is the most feared magical art. Better than prophesy, really.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."Anyone want to co-write a HP fanfic I basically left for dead?
Oooh, boy. Ok. Anyone else want to join us?
I dunno about co-writing, but I'm always up to help out as a consultant.
Okay. Well, I've already got three chapters done, but only posted one. Chapter one the character sheets are on the one posted on my Figment. Harry will be virtually nonexistent, aside from gossip and the occasional cameo.

Speaking about fics in which Harry is nonexistent...
What's up with fics in which Harry isn't there, in which Hermione and Ron still become friends and/or more? Are... are those people just not aware that they'd flat out hate each other without Harry to bring them together?
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariMaybe as a start, but not after their relationship upgrade by book seven. Relationship potential is not a conservative field.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. You're misunderstanding. I'm talking about fics in which the 'Golden Trio', as so many fanfic writers call it, never forms because Harry is not available.
And somehow Hermione and Ron are still friends.
Regardless, even after their relationship upgrade... they're still going to drive each other nuts. One should not marry based on sexual tension. It's not gonna end well.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariI think you're right. But the magical world is like a small town. There just aren't that many available partners. And the two have a lot of trust and history together. I think they can pull it off, if they put the work into it.
However, if Harry hadn't been there, I don't think Ron would have gone looking for Hermione in the girl's bathroom... or challenged the troll in a fight.
"Troll in the dungeons!"

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I can see them avoiding divorce, but I just can't see them as a happy couple. They'd just fight way too much, and create a horrible environment both for themselves and their children.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariHarry'd be a better husband to Ron than to Hermione, though. He's more compatible with her than Ron is, but he'd alternate between henpeckedness and utter rebellion. He's a bit of a snarky, proud, individualistic contrarian, but he's also a huge pinball.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Harry and Hermione might be a marginally better match than Ron and Hermione, but Harry and Ginny are a million times better a match than Harry and Hermione, if only because, while some might accuse her of being a Relationship Sue, Ginny does actually get along very well with Harry.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariHARRY AND LUNA 5EVER.
My various fanfics.Luna can't be in a relationship. She belongs to the world. Rolf is just a cover. And I always imagine that he's the guy from Ed Edd And Eddy.

himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariI dunno. Luna and Neville are a pretty good match.
A match that only exists in the imagination of fans.
Also, I think they got together temporarily in a movie or something, but I didn't watch the movies, so I wouldn't know.
Poor doods get Pair the Spares treatment.

himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariAh, well, that trope may apply to the rest of the fandom, but I read a fanfic that made Luna into his Manic Pixie Dream Girl, and it was so adorable. That's the only way they mesh in my eyes. Especially since she's. ..so....um, interesting. She's really really interesting. Luna has to be the second favorite character of mine in the fandom.

The only real issue I have with that pairing is that it's usually just... sort of there.
Hell, that's the problem with most pairings involving Neville that you'll see. Neville just randomly likes someone, and they like him back.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariActually, the portrayal I'm talking about has Luna liking him first, and actively pushing herself into his life. He's not too flattered at first, and a little nervous. But he gradually warms up to the idea of a girlfriend. His gran eespecially isn't thrilled. But when she specifically cuts Neville off from his friends so that he cannot interact with Luna, he gets upset. Really upset. And then says that , "maybe he will marry Luna in the future", and goes to meet them anyway.

So long as the pairing is actually built and not just randomly there, I don't care all that much. Good writing can get past most hurdles.
