Saw a preview screening on Wednesday. Bog-standard "Boy meets/loses/regains girl" formula. Decent soundtrack, though. Didn't seem to take itself a bit seriously. Russell Brand's Lonnie is great comic foil to Alec Baldwin's straight man Dennis.
Prose is turning beige. Will end post here.
My Blog | My Steam profileI saw the musical about a year and a half ago too, so maybe I just felt like l knew what was coming, even if the story was predictable, the side characters made it funnier.
My PM box is always open to anyone who wants to talk/vent.A couple of friends of mine went to see the musical the other day (of which I'm jealous) and we're all gonna go see the movie on Thursday, so, yeah. All I know is that the musical is apparently really fun and the AV Club really didn't like the movie.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I'm looking forward to it. My town is a bit "out-of-the-way", so we don't get new movies right away.
I was going to see it anyway, but as soon as I heard "Any Way You Want It" was in it... I don't think i've been that excited about a movie for ages.
HOLY CRAP I LOVED IT
I only have 1 complaint: The movie is too damn long. My sister nearly fell asleep through it, and I was actually feeling worn out after it ended. I loved the music, the comedy and the cast; Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand utterly stole the show, and this movie has reinstated my faith in Tom Cruise's acting.
As much as I don't like Tom Cruise as a person I do have to agree on his acting. Was with a friend yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. Awesome Music!
But a bit more fast pacing wouldn't have hurt either.
I have the feeling Cruise, Zeta-Jones and Baldwin did the movie more for the fun of it...
(though I didn't recognize Baldwin up until the credits. I blame the lack of a submarine.)

"You can reply to this Message!"It was meh. I didn't like the singing too much (their singing sounded too clean and processed, not raw enough) and the plot just seemed kinda meandering. The actors were pretty good, but that's about it. Also, according to my friends, they pointlessly changed TONS of stuff from the musical, so, yeah, that's never a good thing.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Honestly, this movie has to appeal to the group who are a part of two demographics: People who like Rock, and people who like Musicals.
Falling into this niche, I found this movie very good, ignoring the romance A-Plot. Cruise is brilliant in it, and I had to be reminded Catherine Zita Jones had actually been in a musical movie prior. So all in all, good fun.
And I did not know that I Wanna Rock was an actual song prior to this. I thought it's parody, I'm A Goofy Goober from the Spongebob Movie was the original.
Anyone else see this? I must say it was pretty good as far as cheesy musicals go.
