The Gate of Lords

While his allies had been unloading on the demon, Khaine had not been idly twiddling his thumbs. He had formed a claymore, and had spent the time in between his last attack and the present increasing its sharpness and durability.

Eventually, he decided that the blade had been fortified enough and he was now waiting for a chance to strike. When the demon was distracted with engaging Billie at CQC, Khaine rushed forward and began attacking as well, making sure that his attacks didn't get in the way of the ice users.

The demon saw the blade fly towards it and tried to block it with an arm, but the blade, though stopped, still managed to cut through almost the entirety of the wooden arm, leaving it hanging. The demon replied with a quick attack with the other arm, aiming for his neck.

The blow never landed, instead parried by a large, plastic sword with an edge sharp enough that it definitely wasn't safe for children. It was moled with intricate-looking runes, and bore the word "Ideal" on each side of the blade, but was stout and thick enough in the middle not to break.

"Somebody's not playing nice," Lionel taunted.

Phoebus took the opportunity at that moment to again try to stab the demon while his spear's blade was still in flames.

The demon took the spear blow calmly, then fell to the ground. Something was wrong, as it did not make a noise when it was struck, and when it rose again its eyes were glowing bright red.

It moved faster than it had before, and resumed its attempts to attack Khaine with a more assured air.

Billie kept trying to jab at the demon with her fists, taking up a stance not unlike a boxer's. She leapt up and aimed a punch down towards the demon's head, while at the same time her other hand moved up and made the ice under the creature shoot up in a stalagmite towards its chest.

Phoebus stepped back as he saw the demon rise again after being stabbed by his flaming spear.

"What does it take?!" Phoebus yelled out as the demon began attacking a fellow Orbkeeper. Moving quickly, Phoebus decided to just weaken the demon. He slashed the burning spearhead at the demon's arm that was ready to fall off. One less arm would be one less thing for the demon to defend itself with.

As the spear struck, not only did the arm fall off, but the stump also caught fire. The demon was sent flying back during Billie's attack, and took longer to get up. It was bleeding terribly, clearly on the verge of death, but it was still a demon.

It used more magic to send a rock flying from the floor at the primary aggressors, then levitated some more to prepare for its next attack.

Phoebus grinned in triumph as the arm fell off and the stump fell off, but moved backwards as a rock flew at him and his allies.

Aiming his spear between the floating rocks, Phoebus intended to release a stream of fire, hoping to deal the death blow to the demon.

Andel continued to drain as much of the dwindling life force as he could. His focus was making him slowly weaken but he was resolute. "It grows weak, we should focus our attacks and all hit it simultaneously" Andel yelled above the sound of combat "A combined attack might be enough to end it." He drew an arrow from his quiver and waited to muttered another incantation. This arrow would also be an armor piercing arrow aimed at the demons eye but he would wait until one of the others attacked so that they would strike in tandem. If all the orb bearers here attacked at the same time they might just end this fight early.

While it sounded like an odd suggestion, it might just work. Carwyn quickly figured out the best way to align himself so that he would not interrupt anyone else's attacks and prepared himself to attack with the claws.

Phoebus heard his friend's suggestion before nodding and making a grunt of assent in his throat.

"Ready when you are," Phoebus declared, setting the spearhead on fire again. He aimed it at the demon, ready to release a consuming stream of fire at the beast.

One of the rocks moved into the spear, trying to ruin Phoebus's aim by pushing the spear away from the demon's direction.

The demon summoned four rotating rocks to surround it and give it extra cover, then began concentrating. Whatever it was preparing, allowing it to finish could lead to disaster.

"Here it goes" he muttered. He drained the demons life force and, this time, siphoned it into Phoebus so they could release a potent combination attack. "Fire! Whatever it's doing we must not let it finish" he shouted. Andel fired the arrow which became illuminated with magical energy that would chew through armor. He quickly shot one more arrow with the same spell.

He hoped the attack would end the demons life or leave it low enough on life force he could remove the last vestige of life it clung to.

Carwyn crouched and attacked from behind the demon, using a large upward attack to avoid the rocks.

When the rock hit Phoebus' spear, extinguishing the flame by briefly breaking his focus, the warrior quickly spun the spear around and over his head before returning the spear to its previous aimed position just as Andel gave the order to fire.

Phoebus then relighted the spearhead and unleashed a massive stream of fire at the demon.

The arrows knocked two of the rocks out of the air, one of which hit the demon with great force. The stream of fire and stab hit head on, and for a few seconds the fire blocked sight of the screeching demon completely.

When everything cleared, the demon was dead, their corpse lying pathetically on the ground covered in burn marks and cuts. Behind it, some of the wall had been torn out, though how this happened wasn't entirely clear.

The doctors carried the unconscious man out, casting a curious glance at the safe as they did so. Despite all the destruction done to the room, it was barely dented.

Phoebus let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding when he beheld the demon's carcass. Resting the butt of his spear on the ground, Phoebus extinguished the spear and reverted back into his regular form.

"Well, that was fun." Phoebus remarked. The warrior sat down on the ground, now realizing how tired he was from the fight now that the adrenaline was passing from his system.

Billie growled for a few seconds upon seeing the demon's dead body, then shook her head and summoned her orb to transform back. Once she had done so she checked out the wreckage around the rest of the room, adjusting her beanie to hide her bright locks again. "That was so much better than some boring Trial." She said cheerily.

Carwyn noticed the defeat of the demon quickly as he was right behind it, and on seeing its corpse stepped on it and stabbed it several times in various locations to be certain. He then stepped away from it, stood up, retracted his claws, and transformed back to normal.

Khaine had been trying to get aim the blade of his claymore so that it would get lodged in the demon long enough for him to have it enter the monsters body, but it died before that became necessary. He stared at the body, wondering if he should decapitate it just in case.

When his comrades started to relax he glanced at them. He let himself relax as well, but didn't turn back to normal just yet. He said "Good work." to everyone present before turning to Billie, saying "You should get that" here he gestured to the wound on her face " checked out, make sure the demon didn't implant something in or infect the wound somehow."

Billie stared at Khaine for a moment, then shrugged. "Feh, might as well." She delved into her array of pockets before coming up with a small, clear crystal (that she totally didn't nick from one of the healer shops in town) that she held up to her cheek. She waited to see if it turned red, which would be a sign of a foreign material in the wound.

Greg looked around confusedly. The battle was over already? Soon, Greg realized that he was laughing - it was a deep, echoing sound, as if he were in a cave. Eventually, Greg summoned his orb back and pulled the energy in it back into him. The transformation process was reversed, Greg changing back from his glass-like state to the normal, slim teenager he normally was.

Greg looked down at the fallen demon. It was an ugly beast, four horns on his head. Looking at the demon, Greg got an idea. He picked up his survival knife, which was on the floor by the monster, and bent down. Slowly, he attempted to cut of the horns of the demon. With any luck, they wouldn't stretch too far into the demon's head, and he could cut out the horns by dislodging them from the demon's flesh.

The horns were successfully removed, leaving four extra wounds on the pitiful beast.

The gem turned red. Master Conrad entered the room seconds later leading a group of other Orbkeepers, and approached her when he saw the gem. "Probably poison. Fortunately, it shouldn't be too hard to deal with." He handed her a small vial of liquid. "This should cure it if that's what it is."

After that, he walked around the room and surveyed the damage. "I have to admit, I'm impressed with how well you did. Not only did nobody lose any limbs or suffer any injury that was too severe, but you kept the already injured man from getting finished off. It's a shame about the room getting destroyed and the trial getting postponed, but it couldn't be helped."
