[up]I've had a Seagate Central NAS (3TB) connected via a patch cord to a TP-LINK modem/wi-fi router. I was able to watch Full HD videos from the NAS on my TV (via a media player that was wirelessly connected to the router) located in adjacent room just fine, with only occasional buffering.

Seagate Central is a one-drive NAS, though (I think it counts more as an external drive). Doesn't support the RAID.

Its gmail yes, so they offer a fowarding service by default?

I would just recommend using an email app like the one built into Win 10's anniversary update or the one on an Iphone. They are made to have multiple email accounts connected to them so no forwarding required, you can just change your email address on things you primarily use and still get the rest.

I can't get W Indows 10 to recognize this Netgear W N111v 2 wireless adapter. It's not bringing up any networks. It's there in the device manager but it doesn't recognize the drivers. I'm trying to uninstall/reinstall earlier drivers, but every time I do it just resets to the current driver (3.1). What am I doing wrong here?

I know the adapter works fine with Windows Vista, so this is kind of frustrating.

Seems like what you have to do is manually install the drivers.

Tried that. It's the only one that corresponds to my situation and it didn't work, I keep trying to update the drivers, I download the latest version, the older versions, 7zip them to the desktop, go to the device manager and select them - and Windows tells me it's unable to install the USB 2.0 WLAN - it can't find any of these drivers, even though I'm looking directly at the folder the drivers are stored in.

This is all legit too, brought it back from Microcenter with W-10 (which I didn't want because I knew I'd have issues), got the drivers from Netgear (yay, they're free!), no expense spared here.

I've gone to Tomshardware and the Netgear forums and they're pretty much dead or ignoring me, contacted the Microcenter technician (though it's only been a few hours and they haven't gotten back to me), and asked 2 friends who suggested manually updating/rolling back the drivers - once again I land in that category of PC issues where you're just literate enough to read the fix instructions, but not enough to replicate the steps. And I am following it - found the msi file and the cab file, extracted them, put the USB back in, found the driver sub-folder. Windows is just outright saying it doesn't exist for some reason. The folder the files were originally in isn't even showing up when I try to update the drivers through device manager.

  • Note: my first friend said I needed to go back to an earlier driver. The second said just look for one that works with Win 10. The first friend has the same adapter as me and his apparently worked, so I'm inclined to believe him, except when I look at the Netgear driver list none of the W N111v 2 drivers are listed saying "Win 10-compatible." So, what gives?

At this point I'm just taking it to a nearby IT department and asking what they think, and after that I'm just looking for another adapter.

Is it a new one?

Because like, I may or may not know some one who has been intercepting network passwords for years to leach off other people's internet..... takes like 15 minutes.

New adapter, A6100 Wi Fi Dual Band 802.11ac, fresh out of the box. Fast Wi-Fi Speeds 150/433.

My old router is doing 104-110 mbps.

The new one clocks at 65-72. Youtube video crashed after a few minutes. Netflix and general searching lags. The new adapter is about 1 foot away from where the old adapter is. No apparent issues with speed on any other computer in my household.

This, after the adapter fell out of the box and went missing for 5-6 minutes after I brought it home.

A rather amusing article from Cracked concerning Twitter's fiascos.

The (Not So) Secret Reason Twitter Keeps Screwing Up

The gist of it is that Twitter is trying to expand their base so they can finally turn a profit, but they apparently have no fucking clue how to do it.

Uber provides a service, but it's still not profitable. And it's got some genuinely unpalatable business practices, an almost sociopathic disregard for customer or driver safety and wellbeing, and the guy who founded it is a sexist asshole (and thus has informed the working environment at Uber in general).

If you really need a ride-sharing service, pick Lyft.

The Uber drivers here are alright, I may switch to lyft as Uber ends to gouge based on traffic.

Uber is supposedly launching a food delivery service. I'm sure GrubHub is just quaking.

I've never really been into Twitter, and I'm not one of those technophobe Baby Boomers (only slightly sarcastic here) - I've been using online media since it came into existence. I see Twitter as little more than a glorified instant messenger client with the (dis)advantage that you cannot restrict who can see your messages or who messages you. Obviously they won't seriously work to ban the dumbasses, because that's antagonistic to their "get as many accounts as possible" business model. If it gets out that you won't be allowed to hate-stalk your favorite celebrities, then there goes a big chunk of its appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I have tried it. I've used it to follow a number of people and businesses whose content interests me, and have also used it to get rapid technical support for Blizzard games — their customer service team responds way more rapidly to tweets than they do to bug reports or forum posts. I've gotten some exposure for my own You Tube videos and blog posts by hooking them up to Twitter. I certainly cannot imagine using it full-time, as many people do. Most of my social messaging is done on Facebook, and I use at least three other apps for various other groups. How many messaging clients can any one person reasonably use or keep up with?

I can't think of any other proprietary messaging client that has ever been profitable on its own merits, without getting packaged into some larger service.

It's a pretty excellent means for incautious people to give the public (and investigators) evidence against themselves.

I mostly use twitter to follow artists, nearly every Japanese artist puts there work on twitter first, and some times exclusivly, plus if you know how the back end is coded you can pull the original image much easier then any other service.
