[up][up][up][up][up] Yes and no, there is still the family unit dynamic that is biology. And that is something that is constantly moving out of favor in today's society. Being married, having kids and in a family unit is no longer top on the list for both sexes. Biologically speaking it's something that is actually very bad and technically biological failures.

[up][up][up] There is that but that kind of thing gives fuel for those who say women can't work heavy jobs and the issues around paid family leave and maternity leave.

"Less Capable of Working" does not mean incapable either, STEM are majorly guilty here.
Yeah, there's a reason I chose that wording. Although in some physically demanding jobs "incapable" would be the right word. But those are exceptions. It's however not a difference that's "irrelevant and worthless", unless you want to argue that a pregnant woman a week from the expected day of the start of the joys of constant screaming is exactly as capable as a strapping young man, given the right equipment and medicine.

It's however a difference that can be worked around much more efficiently than a lot of people and employers realise. In many cases, since most jobs aren't physically demanding, there is little or no difference in capability, and the difference is far, far greater between how individual women experience and handle their pregnancy. Just to pick one example (which I know isn't scientifically significant), my mother was working right up until the actual birth dates (as a nurse, which isn't that physical, but still requires a lot of walking around). A desk job would be easier. And with the communication equipment we have access to nowdays, a lot of jobs that only a few years ago required walking around to meet people can now be done in one place.

[up][up][up]

1) I said "the biggest part" for a reason. Doesn't mean it applies to everyone.

2) Men aren't capable of carrying an unborn child. Arnie aside.

3) My point in the larger part of this post.

Actually Aszur, I do. wink

As someone who has experienced pregnancy and worked both before, up to, after, and still, I highly encourage the investment into artifical wombs and sterilization for those who do not want children.

Pregnancy sucks balls. For the women where it doesn't suck, congrats. I envy your support structure.

Regardless, biology is irrelevant and yet that is the first thing that people like to rely upon to make sexist comments.

Ultimately, we can all agree that the only thing that is allowing discrimination against women is cultural baggage and negative conditioning.

Where the disagreement occurs is how to reverse this trend.

I think the disagreement, again, lies in words, rather than the meaning behind. "Irrelevant" to me means that we don't need to consider it at all. Which would mean no effort to make it easier for pregnant women to work at all, that we wouldn't give to non-pregnant people. It's a relevant effort that has to be made to reach better equality.

And yes, the means to reach the goal. And the goal for me is to have as many options as possible for as many people as possible, with as little difficulty to follow those options as possible.

Personaly, I really want to get sterilized, but I hear it is a pain in the arse to find a doctor willing to do it...

I know it would be even more so if I had to go to a psychologist first

Here in the states you don't have to see a shrink, but most doctors won't touch a woman unless she already has multiple children or is almost 30.

It would be nice if the porn industry weren't one of mental, emotional, and physical abuse of desperate young women.

I'm not very keen on equating minority with oppressed. Fortune 500 people are a minority and I'd not say they are oppressed.

You guys actually embodied my point exactly.

Technically "thug" means someone engaged in criminal activity.

However if you consider the media and cultural interpretation, Thug is a buzzword to instantly demean, disparage, and judge black men.

Arguing semantics is flat out stupid when these very semantics are being warped as tools of oppression.

Just like illegal immigrant could mean anyone but again, in the States, that has been used to be a hateful buzzword against Hispanics and Latinos.

"Thug" has a connotation with black people? That's news to me.

In handball I learned that if you pass a ball to someone, the ball is your responsibility until it's been received by your teammate. It's the same with communication. If you want to communicate a message, it's your responsibility to make sure people actually receive that message. Complaining about people marking your words isn't helping your case. You're just doing what you say they're doing.

If you're using words in a way the people you're talking with don't agree with, you're asking them to both agree with what you're saying and with your chosen vocabulary. You're not offering anything to them. You're not making any effort to even pretend you're meeting them halfway. You're saying, "I don't care about you, but you should listen to me." Which is an awesome way to get people to disagree with you.

People like to argue about stuff, and winning at it. If there's something that's easy to argue with, that's going to be a prime target. If you paint that target for them, they're going to aim for it.

If you want to communicate with people, learn to actually communicate with people, not to people.

Take responsibility for your own words. Don't cast it onto others.

Are you guys seriously discussing one little word? For fuck's sake it's just a word. In the worst case you would have to add one more sentence to explain it and be done with it. Why's this such a big deal to you?

People who use semantics to dodge the question and discredit the oppressed just piss me off. It's like the whole respectability politics thing.

It lets the oppressors set the stage about lets them decide how it is and isn't acceptable for the oppressed to push back or even talk about their oppression.

Thug is derived from the Thuggee murder cult in India.

As far as I'm concerned thug is used to describe violent or murderous criminals. Like there should be no issue with describing the ISIL members, the Maras gangs and Mexican cartels, crips and blood gangs as thugs.

Never heard "thug" to mean "nigga". The word suggests to me a very specific type of brutal buff mook with a Brooklyn or Glasgow accent (in that case, they're likely to be redheads), wearing either an ill-fitting tux with a comically small bowtie, or a brown suit and a fedora. And they're white.

Okay, basically they're the two bad guys in the opening of Batman The Animated Series,

and pretty much any generic bad guy the villain of the week is employing.

They're very likely to be told to Laugh with Me!, followed by Hahaha No.
