There's no IP thread for it dating from that time, that I can see. I'm not sure which image is better.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I prefer the Mars explorer.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything. Not really sold on either, but I lean toward the Mars Explorer pic.
Mars is better, but still not quite there.
Fight smart, not fair. The new one looks like a guy about to die on a Mountain Of Corpses. The old image could be better, I suppose, but it should replace the new one for now.
I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn! How about the panels 7, 8 and 9 of the Mars rover strip? They would get the "abandoned" and "dying" parts told clearer (compare 1000+ days of 90 to 127 days per 90 for instance). The alt text could be used as a caption.
Works for me.
The picture is fine to me. If you've seen Fate/Stay Night, the character Archer got so obsessed with becoming a superhero and saving everyone that he died with no one at his side and no one caring for him, which is the picture. The Mars Rover picture doesn't work as well to me because it's not dramatic enough for the way this trope is usually used, and I think the captions give enough insight for one to understand what the picture currently used is demonstrating.
I never seen Fate/Stay night, so it just looks like somebody alive and well standing on some bodies.
"@[=g3,8d]&fbb=-q]/hk%fg"Clock is set.
Add my vote against the current one. I don't see anything about the trope (which is dying alone either because no one cares or because those who would care are not there); it looks to me like a pretty standard post-battle war-is-hell scene.
Pull even even if we don't choose a replacement.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I like it.
I like it two.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.xkcd is fine.
The clock's up, and since the xkcd comic's infinitely better than the FSN pic and has some support, I think we can go ahead and run with it. It's up, potholed, and tagged; locking up.
The image looks like the person is either Atop a Mountain of Corpses, or on a battlefield. Neither scream "Died Alone". I was thinking something more illustrative, like the death scene at the beginning of Citizen Kane or Michael Corleone's death in The Godfather III could be more illustrative.
XKCD also had decent images Like this.
