Bah. In my experience, context means everything and people who are unspoiled won't get the context behind it. It's only a spoiler if you can guess the context correctly.

Also, looks like they are going with a similar thing with the trailers as last time. One opening video esque one and one "Monokuma explains" one. Though this time we have Monomi. And my goodness, they really did step up the trial segments didn't they?

Orenronen's "I'll cut that claim to pieces!" was kind of melodramatic, but the "Allow me to cut through those words!" seems... lacking somehow.

Regarding SDR2 spoilers, the text "New World Program" probably won't affect people introduced to the series by the localisation, but people following the SA translation have more room for speculation at this point. Well, that's if they're going looking, I guess.

Both sound really cheesy. But, then "sono kotoba kirissate morau" is just as bad, so they are both appropriately lame translation. Asking the other to "allow" the words to be cut fits better the weird fact that Hinata treats word cutting as "morau koto" action instead of "ukeru koto". That is most likely something that makes sense, but my basic-level Japanese knowledge can't understand though.

The game itself can be over-the-top from an objective standpoint, so "I'll cut that claim to pieces!" works fine for me.

A while back, at an event featuring the DR creators, they showed the results of a popularity poll for the characters in DR 2 in which voters could choose their first, second, and third favorite character (link here). The results were interesting, but since they had the Japanese names and were difficult to see clearly in the screenshots, I made a document with the results:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wwh1A8rq9nARlMTS9welG-kq5OY6uxifLXKq2pc_4OA/edit?usp=sharing

This is a simplified version, as it doesn't account for first/second/third choice, but it works well enough. What really makes this fascinating to me is that they separated male and female voters, allowing for some speculative conclusions.

-Generally, female characters did better with male voters, and vice versa. I personally suspect this is partially due to Perverse Sexual Lust. For instance, Komaeda got about three times as many votes from females as males, with females giving a much greater portion of 'first choice' votes. While the most popular character overall, Nanami, did well among female voters, she still got to first place primarily by being the most popular character by far with male voters.

-Furthermore, the most notable differential by percent may go to Tsumiki, who actually came in second among males, but was middle of the pack among females. Mioda, Koizumi (surprisingly to me), and the aforementioned Nanami had more votes from males as well, to a smaller extent. Meanwhile, several male characters (Gundam, Hinata, Souda, Kuzuryuu) got two to three times as many votes from females as males. I've often noted that in shipping debates, people often seem to take the side of the character that they themselves would prefer in real life, and I wonder if that's happening here, with people (subconsciously) choosing the character they'd most like to date as their favorite.

-Men and women did agree more at the bottom: Nidai, Owari, and Hanamura were easily the least popular characters for both genders, and Saionji, Togami, Sonia, and Koizumi were close together in the bottom half.

Hmm. Interesting.

I can't really comment on the DR 2 characters, but I'm kinda opposite with the first game, in that I much prefer the girls instead of the guys. Kirigiri and Sakura being my very favorites. And my favorite guy is Chihiro sooooo...

Though I do suspect Nidai will be a lot more popular over in the West.

I liked the girls more in the first game, but it's probably around equal for the second - but come on, it's hard to beat a group including Junko, Mukuro, Syo, and Kirigiri. I can't help but consider most of the males boring next to them. The second game doesn't have such a concentration of the best character types in one gender.

I don't think I've seen a lot of people expressing their love for Souda, actually, in the western fandom. I'd personally rank him at the bottom, along with Hanamura.

Hm, compared to your analysis and looking at exceptions... Hanamura and Nidai are marginally more popular with male voters, but it's not a significant difference. Peko does a lot better with the girls, though, and is the only significant exception.

My results to the http://drsorter.tumblr.com/ were http://imgur.com/2pjBFLS http://imgur.com/iejGw09, so I would say that while it leans a little bit to the side of the girls, it is pretty balanced.

For Dangan Ronpa: Kirigiri, Chihiro, Sakura, Hina, Makoto, Togami, Alter Ego, Mukuro, Mondo, Toko, Taka, Jack, Hifumi, Junko, Monokuma, Leon, Hagakure, Celeste, Taka-post-death-which-I-don't-really-count.

Dangan Ronpa 2 is based on spoilered first impressions: Nanami, Sonia, Gundam, Hajime, Mahiru, Peko, Fuyuhiko, Ibuki, Monomi, Mikan, Souda, Niadi, Byakuya, Komadea, Akane, Monokuma, Hanamura, Kamukura, Hiyoko

Also, tried an everyone-all-together but write it down. When it was Celeste versus Hiyoko, I involuntarly raged a bit.

Just finished watching both DR and SDR 2 Let's Plays on youtube for the past two weeks.

In my opinion, I think DR 1 has better characters, but SDR 2 handles everything else better. Except for Nanami, who is my favorite character from both games.

Anyway...I finished watching SDR's ending yesterday, and I have to say the plot twists and the reveals still shocks me a lot, despite already getting spoiled beforehand. Like, damn...poor Hinata. Not only he realized he was part of SHSL Despair, but he was also manipulated and lost his personality. And also the one who brought Monokuma in the first place. And all of this reveal happens right after Nanami died. Also applies to the other kids to a lesser extent. Despair indeed.

On the plus side, I was squealing when Alter Ego, Naegi, Kirigiri, and the real Togami showed up. Too bad they don't do much, and Naegi didn't get to showcase his status as the SHSL Hope. But well, this is Hinata's story, not theirs.

On the other hand, I wonder how DR 3 will play out since Junko is dead and Junko AI is erased. Hopefully they don't asspull anything.

Just preordered Danganronpa 2 from EB Games.

Looks like the special edition isn't coming to Australia, though.

I understand the early Junko Trail thing, but I have no idea why they scrapped Ishida's Free Time Event.

Haven't played myself (I don't have a PS Vita), but I watched an LP of it and I love it.

I think it would be kinda interesting to have free time events with Ishida, TBH. Heck, they should have them with Monokuma.

Speaking of free time events, I watched a video of Ishimaru's. I'm surprised Naegi didn't run away after hearing the first thing that comes out of his mouth during the first one. XD

I don’t even know anymore.

Meeeh, I think the mastermind would be waaaay too busy monitoring everyone to make time to chat with his "students."

[up]I don't think that was we the reason we didn't have Free Time events with Monokuma. Junko was obviously more interested in not getting bored than in winning the killing game. The one didn't want the Monokuma Free Time was Naegi.

True, actually. Makoto did very much blame Monokuma for that all happened and with very good reason to do so.

Naegi has no problem chatting with a serial killer! ... well, not quite true, but he does it and that's the important thing. He should definitely subject himself to torment by Monobear for our amusement. Junko would enjoy the chance to mess with him.

Although since Junko has to choose between monitoring everyone and controlling Monobear, there normally won't be a Monobear unit standing around for Naegi to chat to.

... buuut there's no excuse for School Mode, where Monobear's the one to reject a date with Naegi! Junko's not even monitoring everyone for most of it, since the data centre is open for people to search through for materials (!) meaning that she's probably goofing off in the Monobear control room the whole time.

Seems oren's given up on finishing chapter 3 of SDR2, but we should still be getting the rest of DR0 from him. Since that's what I mostly wanted out of that thread anyway with the localisation and other translations around, I'm not too bothered, but... it's still vaguely disappointing. Ah well.

It was pretty clear he wasn't going to finish the whole thing, but he did say he wanted to try to get to the end of the third chapter. The end of that chapter is... mildly interesting... so it would've been amusing to see the reaction to it.

I'm on chapter 4. I think there's an English translated LP on youtube (though I can't remember the name of the user that uploaded it for the life of me) as well as a couple on Tumblr (though those are a mix of videos and pages on google drive):

Kuzuhiko's translated LP mirror (all of chapter 3 and part of 4)

Birdmanronpa's translated LP (chapter 4 onwards, plus prologue and a few sets of free time events.

While they don't look quite as nice as Orenonen's, they're properly translated and pretty decent to boot. Hope this helps anyone who wants to see the rest of the game!

Hey, uh, we may be facing a possible Edit War here.

Remember when Todd Haberkorn said he voiced the main character via Twitter? We thought he's Hinata. But then, the trailer came and people has been clamoring it's Johnny Yong Bosch.

So which one's right about Hinata? Haberkorn or JYB?
