You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.Geez, this movie looks like a clusterfuck, going by all those characters.
Oh, alright, then.

The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.Don't worry, only about half of them will be important in any way.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatThere have also apparently been test screenings, and from the sound of things everybody who's seen it thus far loves it.
The same happened with Brave.
...so what's your point?
Pre Screening Review. seems positive.
They all seem like people whose opinions I would value very highly.
Except not.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again. The more i see and hear about this, the more interested i am. What do you guys think the overall critical reaction will be?
My guess is better than cars 2 and on part, or weaker than Brave's. keep in mind, the critics overa enjoyed Brave. It was the fans who were really split.
I'm hoping better than brave, or if must be at least an inverse of it: critics possibly unimpressed but fans render it as a classic.

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction. So, the now infamous "fourth grade" line that people are annoyed isn't canon anymore? Apparently they were originally going to honor it, but they decided it would be better for both movies if they ignored it. It doesn't really bug me, but just thought y'all would appreciate it.
"They chose to set the film primarily during their college years because “so much of college is about self-discovery and figuring out who you are."” Uuuuuuuuuuuuh you know what OTHER time in your life is about self-discovery? FOURTH GRADE!!!!!!
Uugggh, they actually had a scene in the film where the met in 4th grade and scrapped it? Granted it probably wasn't an easy decision but why even show child Mike in the beginning if they can't use a few seconds with child Sulley? How would you miss anything- they met in fourth grade, briefly, and got closer in college- what's the issue?
Also, I didn't want to do this, but while that line may be just accounted to a "Monster Phrase" I'd like to know how he explains this:

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction. They were worried that if they had included a short scene of them meeting for the first time in the 4th grade, they would need to show THE ENTIRE PROGRESSION of their friendship up to college, which would throw off the pace they wanted. There are other ways you could work it in! You could have them discover that they DID KNOW each other that long and simply both forgot until right before the story's climax. You could just put a photo of them in the 4th grade in one scene and have it be a subtle detail for fans to catch!
That was brought up here too. I think the director would say it's just another of those "monster expressions", but in THAT case, Sully was describing IN DETAIL a memory they both had to support his argument, and it wasn't just a throwaway line no one speaks of again!
STORY, Pixar!!! STORY!!!

.*shrug* I'm perfectly willing to treat it as an alternate setting, if necessary, as long as the story is good. It's the dishonesty that bothers me- Disney just didn't want to come out and admit it at first because they were afraid the public would not accept it. We see too much of that in Hollywood these days.
Edit: Also, seeing that old trailer again has me all excited to see the crystal/Goodman interaction again. Their chemistry is SO great, it's worth watching MU by itself.

But that's a teaser, not an actual clip from the movie. If we're gonna use trailers, then Harry Potter must exist in the Monster universe.
Uh, it wasn't dishonest. They really were planning on having that backstory in the movie but decided it hurt the story to keep it in.

And at what point was that revealed? Because I just found that out. Nope, even if they had originally intended to show the history of their friendship, they did not comment on it after they changed their minds. THAT is dishonest.
Aaaaand, doesn't that go without saying? I mean the human world exists in their universe, so obviously so do their films. Up has Star Wars and is set in the same universe as Toy Story, both of which are the human world of Monsters Inc. I fail to see why it can't be considered canon.

The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again. It's not really the fourth grade line as throwing out the fourth grade concept that bugs people.

Once again, a few spoilers have come to light from book previews, though nothing as big as what happened with Wreck-It Ralph seeing as they've had the sense to keep it to a minimum
Never Trust a Trailer, Mike's actual roommate is Randall
