According to the wiki, they said that his involvement increased quite a bit for this film. Instead of just being a consultant, he actively helped pen the story as well as "be in the studio everyday" to help create it.
Does it guarantee its success? No, of course not that'd be stupid. But it does mean the film might be marginally less stressful than most Modern Spongebobs
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.I admittedly pieced together my understanding of Hillenburg's role in the show from Vincent Waller's Twitter. I don't think any other source could be more authoritative.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Again, not advocating anything other than at least the effort is being made.
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.I'm not denying he's taken on a bigger role in the production of the film.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."So you're saying the film might be bad regardless of whether Stephen is involved.
I can buy that. I still don't think the movie will be good regardless.

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.Wait, next month? WOW!
Given all the hate for the newer episodes, I'm surprised the trailer was so well-received on You Tube. No, scratch that. The trailer was hilarious, and I have good thoughts about the movie too.
For anyone here who's older than 18, how will you buy your tickets in public without feeling self-conscious? Just saying...
Simple. I'll take my nephew with me. That way, people will think I'm going to the movie for him so he won't be alone.
It's genius! Genius! Ahahahahaha!

In the year 202X, all is devastation... Soon, any last shred of hope had by the saintliest optimist shall die and decay.I'm a black man who went to see that Hannah Montana documentary when I was like 12-13 or something. I think seeing a Spongebob movie is a bit more respectable.

I'm going to see the movie mainly because, contrary to the trailers, I know most of it is 2D, and as a big fan of Bob Camp's work, I want to see his character layouts.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."I'm gonna see it with my younger siblings as a guardian, so..yeah
I'm not in my 20s, so it won't look as embarrassing with siblings lol.

Supports cartoons being cartoony!Well, I don't have any siblings, and I'm in college. I guess it's just shuffling into the theater alone then.
I actually really enjoyed that clip.
The lockdown sequence and SpongeBob explaining why he doesn't have the Krabby Patty formula memorized in his head with the employee handbook I thought were pretty funny. The contrasting "epiphany" thoughts between Sponge Bob and Plankton was also a good joke.

has a clue, but it's usually not the correct one 0.55% of the timeWoah, an actually funny torture scene from Spongebob. This movie is looking pretty good so far.
Man, those clips are 100% better then a majority of the newest episodes.
I'm excited for this movie!
My God.
I may just have to see another Spongebob movie after all these years!
What happened!
Some of the people who worked on the first few seasons came back, that's what happened.
Ironically, they left because Hillenburg stopped production on the show to work on the movie.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."I've seen it, it's pretty amazing. It's also completely insane, the superhero part is just about the most logical thing in the film, really. I also like that there was quite a lot the trailer didn't spoil. Especially the time travel plot, as well as Bubbles the Dolphin.
Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveWait, it's out already?
The film comes out next Saturday (The 6th). It's not impossible for Mr. RVDS to have seen it (I'm sure they gave review copies out to theaters and film critics by now), but I don't actually know if he's seen it.
Also, Slash (yes, the Slash) is apparently in the movie...

I thought he meant the turtle with the mace.
It's been 3000 years…
I said earlier he was never not involved with the show. He still approved every episode, and has been involved with the Sponge Bob comic book for a while.
Don't get your hopes up.
