It is as they said it would be.

I personally don't feel too badly about this. On one hand having a small number of episodes means less Padding, maybe one subplot begun-and-done-with per episode. On the other hand, I think a smaller number means more teleportation and rush to finish.

Funny enough, with only 7 episodes, It might end the season around the same time that it normally does anyway.

If by summer they mean June then yes, but if they mean July, then you could tip this into August.

http://winteriscoming.net/2016/07/18/complete-details-on-the-game-of-thrones-season-6-dvdblu-ray-boxset/

What is weird is them releasing their 6th season on Home Video so early. November 2016, when usually it comes out a few months before the premiere of the following season. Histories and Lore has:

The Old Way: narrated by Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk)
The Kingsmoot: narrated by Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk)
The Sunset Sea: narrated by Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk)
War of the Ninepenny Kings: narrated by Brother Ray (Ian McShane)
The Great Tourney at Harrenhal: narrated by Meera Reed (Ellie Kendrick)
Robert’s Rebellion: narrated by Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau)
Vaes Dothrak: narrated by Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen)
The Dothraki: narrated by Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen)
Northern Allegiances to House Stark: narrated by Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner)
Children of the Forest vs. the First Men: narrated by the Three-Eyed Raven (Max von Sydow)
Brotherhood Without Banners: narrated by Thoros of Myr (Paul Kaye)
Oldtown: narrated by Grand Maester Pycelle (Julian Glover) and Qyburn (Anton Lesser)
House Dayne: narrated by Young Ned Stark (Robert Aramayo)
The Little Birds: narrated by Lord Varys (Conleth Hill)
Knights of the Vale: narrated by Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish (Aidan Gillen)
House Tarly: narrated by Randyll Tarly (James Faulkner)
Riverrun: narrated by Brynden ‘the Blackfish’ Tully (Clive Russell)
Great Sept of Baelor: narrated by the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce)

The weird part is that Ned Stark is narrating H+L for the first time...posthumously even. And you also have "current event" Lore like "Little Birds" "Brotherhood without banners".

Love that Oldtown will have two videos, one by Pycelle, one by Qyburn. Propaganda versus Mythbusting. Histories and Lore is the one part of the entire series that I feel entirely happy about.

I think this is Sansa's first H+L, that makes her along with Bran, Catelyn and Robb, among the Starks who narrate this, joined now by posthumous-Ned. I always thought the reason Ned didn't narrate events in the S1 BR release was that it wasn't in his character since this is a guy who doesn't like to talk about his past (both because he doesn't want to lie and because he wants to hide the truth) so it makes sense he wouldn't give his view of events. He's like Johnny Tightlips ("I ain't saying nothin").

Jaime Lannister narrates again since S4's BR where he discusses the Kingsguard. Ian Mcshane's Brother Ray is back to talk about the War of the 9penny Kings and I wonder if he'll confirm that it took place under Aegon V or not.

He isn't referred to as such in the show. So you can call him Ian Mcshane.

I'm not really a fan of the show, considering it's on Sky Atlantic, which means I'd have to give a Murdoch group company more than the grudging almost a pound for one of their "newspapers" if I wanted to watch it, though I have read most of the books so far. But I thought this was too delicious not to share:

Bit embarrassing, eh?

Is that Jon Snow?

Terrifying, actually. Though still better than not knowing where you ended up. After they removed my wisdom teeth I woke up in a sterile, completely white room with no other person present (because the person who was supposed to be there when I woke up went to the toilet). Because of the anaestetic side-effects I didn't know who I was, where I was or why I couldn't feel my face. Fun times.

I imagine waking up in Westeros is slightly more pleasant. :/

You'd rather wake up in a world with White Walkers and wildfire than a room with white walls?

I mean, the average woman of Westeros is really attractive, but that doesn't make it that much better...

"Sansa didn't tell Jon because she wanted all the credit and it was a more dramatic moment when they all showed up." -Sophie Turner

It gets worse.

Sophie Turner had a pretty surprising answer when she was asked if Sansa Stark felt her brother, Jon Snow, was worthy of ruling the North. “I’m not sure [Sansa] believes Jon is capable of running Winterfell and the north,” she said, “He doesn’t have the intellect, knowledge or experience that she has and I concur.”

That said, he doesn't have the ruling experience and knowledge that she should have. He was a bastard, but the firstborn sons and daughters are expected to be in those leadership positions and are groomed for it. She didn't show it during the first seasons, but she has had a lot of practical exposure to "the game of thrones" once she started getting shipped around to various heirs and families.

My annoyance with the first statement was that Big Damn Heroes isn't really the most admirable trope.

Show!Jon is dumb as a mule...but then Show!Sansa especially since S5-S6 is just as dumb too. As I said the plot just doesn't make sense in Character Development anymore. Because of these glaring inconsistencies and patent moronism. It makes no sense on any Watsonian level.

The following people on the show are stupid since S5: Tyrion, Littlefinger, Roose Bolton, Sansa, Jaime, Jon Snow, Alliser Thorne, Doran Martell, Edmure Tully, Blackfish.

About the only ones who are rational and believably smart: High Sparrow, Cersei (yes she does stupid things but she does stupid things for solid reasons), Varys, Melisandre, Stannis, Qyburn, Sandor Clegane, Brotherhood Without Banners, Theon Greyjoy, Euron Greyjoy, Bran.

Arya is mostly smart but occassionally does stupid things like gallivanting across Braavos.

@probably insane Ugh, that's really annoying.

[up][up] Well not really. Daughters aren't bred to rule unless they're expected to inherit which Ned Stark wouldn't have likely thought with 3 sons ahead of her

[up] Plus, Sophie voted for LF on the throne. (She got booed for that one.)

I'm beginning to think that I should just convince myself that Sansa will just end up as LF 2.0. That way, I can just go - I knew it! - instead of Oh God, no, why?!

Ever since the thing with Dillane I've taken to assuming the actors get no direction whatsoever, they just have to internalise whatever broad characterisation they can divine from the scripts as and when they get to read them.

A lot of stuff makes a lot more sense now.
